OOAK Table Tennis Forum

I thought it would be really great if we had a map, showing the location of members (those that choose to be part of it) and also all the clubs that we play at. This could be real handy if you're visiting somewhere, to see who and what clubs are nearby...

It appears it's not that easy to embed a map into this forum, but what we can do is add another page within the forum (eg like the FAQ page) and show a map there. Then we can all help add the locations on the map. I'm thinking something like Googlemaps, but if there's another application that will do it, then that's fine too.

Although I think I'm quite capable of adding the page that will contain the map to this forum, I'm not all that familiar with creating the map, part from just a basic google map... It can all be done in html, but I think I'll need some help...

Is there anyone here that has some familiarity with this, and can help set this up?

Excellent idea haggisv. Beyond me how you could do it, it would be good if it was like google maps and you could post a short video of your club rub or you playing?!

I think it would be great to have too. Also something similar that would be good would be a listing of TT facilities everywhere (for Australia at least anyway). I would love to have had a hit in Merimbula but had no idea if they had anywhere to have a hit. I don't think there is any members here from those parts, are there?

googlemaps has a nice api you can use to place custom points.

I've found a plugin for SMF and phpbbv2. Haven't found one for phpbbv3 yet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Haggisv has a spare domain sitting unused. Perhaps he could load phpbbv2 and use it to support the map?

I think it should remain on this forum... which is why i suggested simply adding a page here (with a link to it at the top of this page) where we can add the map in html...

We don't need a plugin Silver, as we're not trying to embed the maps into the forum, we just want to put it onto a html page...

Reb: I think we should have locations on there regardless of country... it will be up to members to provide locations so that we can add them...

All it would take is for people to nominate locations that they wish to add, and it can be implimented in code... This might be a good start at least?
