Who am I?

I began playing table tennis at the age of 12, and I specialize in doubles play. In 1997, I participated at the 1997 Maccabiah Games in Israel. I was part of the delegation that was involved in the tragic bridge collapse during the opening ceremony of the games.

I competed at the Athens Olympics - Round of 32 Men's doubles. My partner and I were defeated in the second round of the tournament.
I won a Gold Medal at Oceania Games in Men's Doubles, 2004.
A Bronze Medal at Commonwealth Games in the Team event, 2004.
In the 2006 Commonwealth Games, despite battling injury throughout the tournament I beat a highly-fancied Singaporean opponent.
I also won a Silver Medal at the Finland Open in the Team event, 2005.

My highest National Rankings were: 4th in Singles & 1st in Doubles.

Would the solution to your riddle be Australia's own David Zalcberg? :)

CORRECT!

Correct. That didn't take long....although it could also be a table tennis ball in a blender.

It's a part of some table tennis bats. Some people will occasionally sniff it. Others would rather throw it out on the water. In some homes, I can run vertically or horizontally. Know what it is?

Is it a paint sheet, like the ones Jpen or Cpen would use on one side if they don't use that side to play with?
