OOAK Table Tennis Forum

I am planning to buy a new table and a robot. I am around 1800 level player and my total budget is around $ 600-700. Since ipong has asynchronus oscillation-frequency combination, I have decided to go with a Newgy instead.

I know I can not afford top of the line robot + table so I have to me some compromise in either one or both. I have never owned a table or a robot so I need help badly here.

First question

Since I can upgrade later, what should i chose - average (5/8inch) table and newgy 1050 or good (3/4inch) table and 1040?? This is my biggest question.

Second question

Given my 1800 level, which robot is better for me? 1040 or 1050 ( $100 difference )? I plan to play everyday half an hour with league on Tuesday's and all tournaments near Atlanta area (approx 4-6 every year).

Third question

I saw some AMF tables on Walmart.com which seem pretty cheap ($320 for 1inch top!). Are these good for practicing? With my budget I am not expecting club level table experience anyway but how bad can these be?

Fourth and very important question

Given my budget whats the best table-robot combo I can get. I am putting this up in my dining area before I can move to a bigger place so I will firstly be honing my strokes and transition and can only work on movement later.

What does the 1050 do that the 1040 can't do? And whatever those features are is it worth the extra money?

Either way, it would definitely be a good idea to get a catch net. Probably most any table would be OK if you're just doing robot training. If you're on a budget maybe get the robot and a catch net. You can usually get a great deal on a used table in good condition if you look around.

I ordered a 1050 with Bty playback rollaway. IPong catch net is out of stock everywhere so waiting for that to become available

1050 is digital 1040 is analog. more options for placement, frequency, oscillation, and can store 64 drills.

I think the 1050 is a better choice, as the 1040 oscillation is also asynchronous, although it's still a lot better than the Ipong IMO.

I think most tables should be fine, so I think you'll bet happy with that setup.
