All single-wheel robots cannot produce a no-spin ball, and even many of the dual-wheel robots do not seem to be able to produce a true no-spin ball either. Although people rarely need it, as a pimple player I'd like to have this feature to practice against.

I've been mucking around with my Newgy 2050 to to try and produce a no-spin ball. I've some some success by bouncing off the other half of the table first, before it bounces on mine. This seems to reduce the spin, so a backspin ball bounced off the other half first, produces a light backspin ball which is close enough for me to practice no-spin balls.

Has anyone found a better method of producing a no-spin ball?

I think it needed one of these with it :P

I don't think there is another answer cos I read the OP and couldn't think of anything. Maybe ILP was "thinking outside the box"? Mulitball drills can produce no spin balls, just not with the robot

Actually when a pure no-spin ball comes off the first bounce, the momentum will make the ball contain a little topspin.
So if you want to make a pure no spin ball, your robot needs to have the ability to produce slight backspin. No other way, at least in my mind right now.

So actually if your single-wheel robot could send a no-spin ball, it is the real no-spin ball you face in real play. It always contains little topspin.

Sorry Alex. Reb got it.

As for another idea how about tacking a sheet of medium pips to a board and sticking the board onto the table where the robot will shoot a light backspin ball?

Yes that is a good point... and I guess the same goes for a real shot by an actauly player...their bounce will also change the spin a little.

I think ilikepie's idea of shooting the ball onto a sheet of rubber is also worth considering...I just need to find one that has enough grip to take most of the spin off... sounds like a fun project to try and figure out ;)
