A robot should be a mandatory requirement for any budding TT player... along with some lessons and appropriate rubbers and blade... a must have...btw I'll make a plug for the newgy 540! size of balls...mine are regular and I'm good with those as they are...no plastic surgery! ;)

About ready to purchase a 2050... but... what about new balls - with slightly larger ones, is this going to be a problem? Do we need to wait for a 2060, suitable for "40+" ( :envy:) balls?

My suggestion is contact the manufacturer.

The 2050 has a jig. You have to pass through all the balls before using it on the robot. I'll try to find my jig if it still exist and measure the maximum diameter.

I've tried to contact the manufacturer, but not yet had a response. I thought there was a Newgy expert on the forum (indeed on this thread), so figured it was worth asking.

I'll give the UK distributer a call.

The chap I buy from tells me that Donic have tested the 2050 extensively with new balls, and there's no problem.

LordCope, I've been away from this forum for several days so did not see your post.

Newgy cannot at this point provide a blanket statement about how well the 40+ balls will work in our robots. That is primarily because we have not tested a variety of 40+ balls in our robot. But what I can tell you is my own experience with using both the approved DoubleFish 3-star and their unapproved 1-star seamed balls in my Robo-Pong 2050. You can read about my own experiences in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=25595&start=0

I also tested my 2050 with prototype samples of the seamless poly ball a year or two ago and did not notice any substantial issues with that ball either.

That is part of what we call the Ball Dam. It has a 40mm (almost exactly) hole in it for testing balls to be sure they are of the proper size to fit in the robot. So if you have a old Ball Dam, none of the poly balls should fit through that hole unless they happen to be exactly 40mm (none of the ones I measured were). I requested our factory quite a few months ago to enlarge that hole to 40.6mm so that poly balls would work in it, so any new Newgy robots should already have that hole changed to 40.6mm.

Thanks for the clarification Larry. I thought it has tolerances on ball greater than 40.
