I had some problems at first too. I wasn't a fan of the included instructions. Probably took me at least an hour of trouble shooting to get the hang of it.

If you have any specific questions, post them.

Hi,

I'm new to this thread. Just got mine Amicus Pro last week for my boy and faced the same issues configuring/programming the drills. Appreciate if someone could share.

Many players asked if the Amicus Professional and the Power Pong 3000 is the same machine? Yes, it’s made by the same manufacturer who puts on the Power Pong 3000 label for Power Pong and the Amicus label for Butterfly.
The Power Pong 3000 has three wheels and able to produce no spin, sidespin, under spin and topspin combinations.
The control panel looks complicated at first, but it’s really easy to set up simple and also highly advanced drills. This machine also allows you to set the frequency for each of the different type of balls coming at you. For example the speed of a serve needs to be slower than a fast counter shot, and the Power Pong 3000 is able to adjust the speed of every ball to make it a realistic playing experience.
The control panel allows you to program up to 8 different types of balls that includes different type of serves, simple and highly competitive drills. You may also program a game to have each point starts with different serves and different combination of shots coming at you in order, or random creating a world class training experience.

I plan to carry this myself in flight.

Is it recommended to carry it as a cabin baggage or main luggage ? And how secure is the bag that comes along with it ?

The bag that it comes in is very nice, but I don't think I'd trust airline baggage handlers with it. I just returned from a flight yesterday where they broke my golf driver which was packed along with my golf bag in a golf bag carrier. That's hard to do without some very rough handling. So I'd take it as carry on if I were you. That's assuming it's small enough. I think it is, but you should check the dimensions.

Could any one please upload a video of themselves playing with Amicus ?

Also, are the 2015 models improved from 2014 models ? I got the below from megaspin.net

• New: The new model has 21 pre-saved exercises from positions 79-99.
• New: USB connection, for a later download of revised software.
• Improved: Lower noise level.
• Improved: Cycle function is renewed: it now plays 10, 20, 40 and 60 second intervals, instead of 2,4, 6 and 8 minutes, which is much more practical (interval training method).

Ha ha. I like what you did to cover the robot. I assume that's to keep balls from bouncing off it and off the table? How's it working for you, and what is it? I was thinking of designing some kind of plastic wedge and getting it fabbed by a 3D printer, but your low-tech solution looks easier if it works...

It's a pillow case with a hole cut in it, painters tape to hold it on. Ultra low tech indeed. It doesn't work as well as id like. Balls still bounce of vigorously when they hit around the robot head (cause there's no padding there), but floofy bit below that does work pretty well. So I'm thinking some soft foam around the front edges of the wheel covers and head, underneath the pillow case will help, but the ideal thing would be a strip of cloth or netting that hangs just a bit in front of the robot with a hole in that same spot.

I also did another ghetto fab that's working well. Some owners have noted how the balls can sometimes cause the plug from the robot head to get dislodged. Seems really boneheaded to put that plug in there in the first place, but I just cut the top of a plastic bottle and put it around the plug so now the balls don't mess with it

Nice! I haven't seen that DB9 connector get dislodged myself. I don't think it's ever happened actually. It's srange that it is different for you.

A problem I do have, a lot actually, is that balls in the collection area get bunched up and stop rolling down to the feeder motor. This happens especially if I am hitting them to the right side, such as when I'm working on my forehand (I'm lefty). That DB9 is part of the cause of that. Do you do anything to deal with that issue?

Advanced vs professional

I know you can program the frequency delay on the professional but does it have the automatic option as well like on the advanced?

No. The advanced has a feature where it will delay a ball if the feed rate is so fast that it will otherwise send a ball before you've had a chance to hit the previous ball, but you can't manually schedule the feed time of each individual ball like with the Pro. That said, I have never used the programmable delay time feature of the Pro, but if you're up for the hassle factor of programming it, it's a cool feature.

Thank you all for the information you have provided. I have just ordered the Amicus Advance and your comments & tips were very helpful for reaching a decision, and for preparing to programme the robot.

I had a few problems with the advance control unit which ran on somewhat unresolved. Butterfly & Teessport combined to upgrade me to the Professional unit free of charge. Could not ask for more than that. One question - can a member on this forum provide a list of the pre-saved exercises in the Pro? I cannot find anything official from Butterfly. Thanks in anticipation.
