The Guinness World Records - Japan Tour video series begins with a futuristic robot that has the uncanny ability of being able to play table tennis better than most humans.

If this is true, I feel bad for the human race.

I don't know if the robot is real... it's possible.
What it does is more like ping pong rather than table tennis though... a big difference!

Only a video of the robot playing against a proper player will suffice. This showed it playing against players with average skills, at best.

This actually is fake. Just like the Bruce Lee video of him playing with nunchuks.

Depends on what you mean by "fake". Read what I wrote a while back about it:

viewtopic.php?f=67&t=25315

That article you posted bears me out. Was that a real game? No. Was it choreographed? Yes. Was the video edited? Heavily so. Was the ball real? Yes (it wasn't in the "Bruce Lee" video, they added it in). Did the robot actually hit topspin drives and blocks? Yes. Did Boll and the robot actually hit the ball at each other? Yes. Did they manage to do this without making mistakes? No, those were edited out of course. Was the robot using "sight" to calibrate it's shots? I'm pretty sure it had to be doing something like that, those exchanges would have been impossible otherwise.

Let me clarify then. By fake I meant that the robot did not give Timo Boll even close to the fight that the video makes it out to be. Without the editing, the trickery, the robot would lose....badly. I am a journalist. In my world, this is a fake. As in something that conveys a message that is not true. In this case the untrue message was that the robot was as good or even close to being as good as a world class player. It is not.
As for the Bruce Lee video, it was not even Bruce Lee.

I suppose you'd then have to ask - was the video purported to be news? The answer is no. It was an ad. In advertising you often see simulations and fakery. My favorite example is those pictures of creamer being added to coffee as it is being stirred. How does one take such a photograph? Simple. Molasses and Elmer's glue. In this case, the robot is still able to track and hit the ball, even if it was heavily choreographed and the footage edited. Sort of the table tennis equivalent of pro wrestling..
