I have a Butterfly Amicus Advance model. I can set the machine up to play with multiple balls, balls will come out as planned. But if I invoke the "rnd" function, then every now and then a ball will shoot out upward instead of heading down toward the table, even though none was set for that way. he frequency is about 1 in 10. Being in random, 2 or 3 upward shots will come in sequence too. If I turn off the "rnd", then the robot backs to normal. What was wrong here? Any insights?

Check the connectors. Mine does odd stuff too from time to time.

I agree with wilkinru—check your connections. Especially the one on the bottom of the Control Panel. Gravity is always working on that connection to loosen it and once loose, all matter of odd behaviors can result. All Generation 1 Amicus Robots, that includes the Advance, were designed with the intention that the cable would be removed from the Control Panel at the end of a training session and then re-plugged back in at the start of the next training session. That's why the cable doesn't have those screws to keep that connection together. Unplugging the cable prevents power from reaching the Control Panel and robot motors when you're not using it. And if you get in the habit of re-plugging the cable at the start of your training session, it is highly unlikely that you will have problems like you describe while using the robot.
