Hi all

We have created an OOAK server on Discord.

For those of you who have used Discord before, no further explanation needed, hopefully we'll see you soon :)

For those who haven't, Discord is a community application with real-time chat and even voice channels. It can be used like a forum with "channels" (like topics) and threads. It's available as a really good app on mobile devices, as well as Windows/Mac/Linux, and there's a web browser version too. It's a great place for sharing video and social media links, and has a load of integrations/apps/extensions we can use to make it useful and effective.

We're not doing this to replace the forum, far from it, but gives us another way to keep in touch with table tennis lovers around the globe.

If we get enough members on the server, we'll even be able to apply for discovery so people using Discord can search for "table tennis" and we'll come up.

I had to do some research on Discord as I've never heard of it before. People might find this short video useful.

hoping more people from the server can join, discord is a great place to be able to communicte as a community online in real time, and with more clarity/detail
its also much much faster
heres hoping both ooak and the disc server can increase in activity

Little bump on this :) We've got a few active posters, but I reckon with another 4 or 5 members, the Discord server would really take off!

We're up to 35 members now and well over 1,000 messages. I'd encourage anyone to join us!

ALSO, please note: we have channels very similar to OOAK forums - e.g. equipment (blades, inverted, LP etc), videos, even blogs. If you don't see these, make sure your Discord app is up to date.

I know you have/continue to put a lot of work in to facilitating the use of discord Dan, and your effort is appreciated but the simple answer to your question for me is no. I joined, had a look around and then deleted the discord software off my pc. This forum is where I prefer to operate. I can come and go as I please, PM people if I want a one to one chat, post topics and ask questions and share experiences. This forum meets all my needs thank you.

Ironically, discord means a lack of agreement or a lack of harmony - calling an app aimed at encouraging communication "discord" seems counterintuitive |(

I think it just comes down to the individual and their preferences.

The forum is "slower". That's not necessarily a bad thing right - it's a bit more relaxed; replies can be better worded/more considered; less overwhelming etc.

Discord can be fast and furious. It's a chat program first and foremost, not a forum. We've kinda repurposed it as such :)

But the chats are where the value lies - you can get very quick responses to your questions, and then ask follow-up questions etc. There are also community channels where you can just drop a quick message like "hi folks, how's it going" or "anyone see the Dima match?" and you don't need a separate thread etc. You can also get Push notifications of members' livestreams on YouTube etc. which is pretty awesome.

Personally I prefer Discord because I much prefer using the Discord application to my web browser or Tapatalk etc. The app is great. It's really easy to get in touch with people. We've got 210 members now with over 1,000 topics of discussion.

They're not mutually exclusive though - they're both OOAK. You can reap the benefits of both :)

think you got "dan" and "dunc" mixed up there Debater :)

but yeah, as I said in my post just now, entirely individual preference!
