I've got ~300 balls for my robot and they are all training balls.

But 200 of them are un-marked and are v.hard and have a very nice consistancy and bounce. I think they are robot balls but seriously feel and play like 3star double fish balls.

Anyway, moving on, should I get more balls? (keeping in mind that the balls recycle and go back to the machine *if I get the shot on the table )

All you guys and gals with robots, how many balls do you think is adequate? And should I get let's say 100 3*s or 200 1*s or 300 training balls?

I've managed to step on quite a few balls and so my ~300 ball count may be a bit off

Can't see why you would need more than 300 odd when they recycle RD. Even if you miss every shot on the table, 300 is a lot of shots (not to mention a lot to pick up, why would you want more?)

300 is plenty. I find a ball pickup tube is very useful and avoids too much bending. If the balls are regular I would keep what you have. As an exercise you could mix in some quality ones which should produce a bit of variation which relects to some extent the real world.

Yeah I've got half a dozen 3 stars.

I might get some more as I'm a bit lazy at picking them up!

RD, JJR up there ^^^ has a video on here somewhere showing his pick-up tool he made. Its a ripper! Get a bucket and put some pin holes around it spaced apart just about 35mm or so and thread fishing line through them so that you get "lines" across the bucket. Put some sort of handlestick on the bottom of the bucket. You'll be able to pick up 10 balls or so with each pickup!

i spent 2 bucks on a kids butterfly net with a long bamboo pole at the local discount store. reinforced the lip of the net with some ducktape & it works great.

What I've done is bamboo pole and coat hanger with a bag attached!

It's ok but it still takes time. Ah what the heck, I'll just get another 300 more! :D

You'd still have to bend down to get them into the net wouldn't you Eric? Or do you have something else to push them in?

I bent the angle of the wire to the net & it just scoops the balls up using a pushing motion. the bamboo is long enough i don't have to bend over at all. if i'm feeling lazy my foot works well as a guide into the net.
