When I was a teen playing TT I had an Orthodontist as a teammate. I was very careful to steer clear of his blade when we played doubles

When you played with him you really had to brace yourself, you knew the drill.

The tooth, the whole tooth and nothing but the tooth.

Yep, it was always quite an ad-denture!

Funnily enough I never laughed when he brought out the gas on court lol.

His name was Rod, btw. Always felt like he was fishing for something.

Make sure any future appointments aren't at 2:30?

Managing the hurty tooth with painkillers but wanna recover quickly :-)

Was told no sodas, hot foods, spicy foods, no listerine, no gargling, no spitting, no straw use, no yawning!, no pressing the cheek, etc.

I bought a kids super soft bristle toothbrush to help clean.

Eating soup is very tedious and taking a long time. I cant open my mouth a lot yet.

Do what the dentist / doctor has said?
Relying on the wisdom of the professionals instrumental in the removal of your wisdom (tooth) shouldn't impact you too much.

Don't "flap your gums" too much?

Yeah :D :D :D

I can hardly open my jaw since there are also stitches holding the gums down. Worried about how to clean that area. Doc/surgeon was thorough in letting me know what not to do but dint exactly cover every instance of what I CAN do.

No heavy lifting or exercise which includes sports like Table-tennis :-P

Just as I was getting the hang of generating that killer FH loop! :@

So I wanna not end up with any gum infections and get the swelling down ( right now I am applying ice packs to the cheek but it's tedious to hold it in place without pressing too hard so I can't exactly use the elastic straps to hold it in place ).

I got some sleep by pillows stuffed either side and under the arms to prevent rolling over or reclining the head on the wrong cheek.

3 words: Do not disturb.
-You want to have a good blood clot in order to have good healing.
-Soft diet.
-Do not rinse the mouth too vigorously first day or two. You don't want to disturb or dislodge the blood clot in the socket.
-Ice pack for first two days can reduce the swelling.
-If the dentist hasn't prescribed anything for pain, over the counter ibuprofen works well.
-If the pain suddenly gets worse a few days later (typically 3-5 days later), then you probably have an infection or a dry socket. To minimize the chance of these complications, managing the extraction site well the first day or 2 is important.
-Remember: Do not disturb the extraction site.
-Rest.

@shaolinTT great advice and recommends dude! I am minimizing my activity to just resting. No biting chewing or swilling in that corner. No sudden jaw movements or opening wide.

Did u use toothpaste and did u brush teeth? I already got a kids brush and brushed rest of the mouth except that back corner :-P

How to minimize risk of infecting it with soup or odd food residue?

So pleased:
a. the spammer has been removed, and
b. responders basically said, "Go see a dentist."

One of the things that a topic like this always produces is a raft of horror stories. No one ever mentions that in 90%+ of cases there's never a problem. My dentist took out two of my wisdom teeth. Took him ten minutes in total, and the only reason it took that long was he had to wait five minutes for the anaesthetic to take effect. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. :D
