Did you do anything else to cure it besides wearing the braces when playing and icing afterwards? How often do you play?

Mine have been hurting for 4 or 5 months now. Taking Aleve and putting on icy hot type stuff daily. I play almost every day, but I think its the moving around to chop that really makes it worse.

Other than wearing the braces, and making sure that if they felt sore I took some Aleve, I didn't really do anything else. I play probably 2-3 times/week (more in the winter, less in the summer). It's also important to make sure that the shoes that you are wearing, both for table tennis and just for regular wear, have good support. I typically get a new pair of shoes for table tennis every 5 or 6 months at most. If the support of the shoes breaks down I also could feel that. And even for my regular wear, I make sure that the shoes I buy have good support, I was starting to feel sore if I wore some dress shoes that were more flat and thin in terms of support.

ICE it up and keep elevated (above your body level when lying down) as much as you can.
Have yourself checked for uric acid levels. It may be gout your developing too which have some similar symptoms . Mine usually develop on big toe or heel.
