Hi Guys,

I found cortisone to be only a temporary solution to tennis elbow. I had three injections over three years but the problem kept coming back.

I have simply had to practice less and cut my match schedule down a bit which has also helped a shoulder problem I developed. Ironically the shoulder was helped by a cortisone injection.

Bulldog.

These shots are simply a band-aid solution that only provide temporary relief.

Here is an in-depth article that explains why they are not worth the shot in the arm. There is also a video of how the injections are done.

Hope this helps.

I agree. Hopefully my injury problems are behind me!

I've been using a theraband for the last few months and my shoulder/elbow problems have pretty much disappeared. Just simple exercises and the band is lowres. My technique has improved in this time as well though, which is helping. I feel for you kurious. Good luck on the rehab.

The Thera-band has also worked for me, particularly the exercise known as the Tyler Twist with it.

It's been over a year since I made my previous post and the tennis elbow has not returned. I used the Thera-Band flexbar to fix my golfer's elbow as well. I continue to recommend the Thera-Band as an inexpensive and effective solution for tennis/golfer's elbow.

Current thinking is to avoid cortisone for chronic tennis elbow because the condition is not really an inflammatory condition, it is a degenerative condition. For some tendonosis, such as Achilles, cortisone actually makes it worse.

I have a thread in this section, the one just below this one on repetitive use injuries, where I cited a bunch of the research on this.

A million thanks to GMan4911 for the sharing!

I have tennis elbow and have to stop practicing for last 2 weeks. Can't even do a simple handshake or turning the door knob.

Found this discussion thread and your advice on Flexbar, managed to locate a local rehab supplies shop who carry it. Bought the last piece in stock.
Follow instruction on YouTube to do the Tyler exercise. Within less than a week I have recovered ~80% or more, and back to the table for my weekly session - still keep my elbow strap on, not to over stress.

Thanks again.

What color/strength Flexbar are you guys using? I am going to try one for the "golfers elbow" I have in left arm, that's accumulated from music and rock climbing. With all the climbing, my grip is certainly stronger than average, but don't want to over do it. I just ordered a green and a blue to see which felt better, but would like to hear other's experiences.

I'm using the green one. I also have pretty good arm strength, and the green one seems about right, but I'm sure even the yellow one would be fine.

I have the red one. My GF has the yellow one but it's not firm enough for the avg guy, IMO. However, if your tennis elbow is extremely painful, it might be better to start with yellow.

My golfers elbow is not extremely painful. It gets pretty bad with certain climbing moves, playing flute, sometimes hurts a little bit doing simple things like wash my hair, and sometimes doesn't hurt at all...
