Sore toes are likely the result of the shoe being a tight fit in the toe area.

Not length wise - more not enough volume or height in that area.

I tried a pair of tennis shoes on in the shop recently that were a tight fit height wise in the toe area.

My toes were killing me within 30 seconds of putting them on!

I bought a different pair needless to say.
