Post subject:  Any rotator cuff tips?

I have been away from table tennis for many years due to a bad rotator cuff. I've had 2 operations and all the operations did was stop the immediate pain, but it has never been 100%.
I'm sure technique has a lot to do with it, but are there specific exercises and stretches I can do to try to get back into table tennis?

I had full reconstruction surgery on my shoulder and was back a year later. Just bite the bullet and pay for a good physio therapist and do exactly what they say and give it time.

I've never used it or have an issue with the shoulder like you, but have you looked into kinesio tape? It's those muscle tapes they use to help support the muscles or an area of soreness or injury. It might also be found under kinesiology. You can find youtube videos of rotator cuff applications. Hope that may help you.

Because you have already had surgery, your anatomy, limitations, and areas of scar tissue are going to be different in a way that no standard stretching or exercising would be appropriate.

This requires assessment and evaluation, PRIOR to doing any exercising. As Leatherback said, you should consult with a PT who can review or surgury, assess your current range of motion and limitations, and do exactly what is prescribed. To do anything on your own risks further complications or injury.

No magic cure - it took me 2 years after a cuff repair - it's less motion than I had before, but doesn't pop out anymore.
I didn't do the physio after, and I stopped everything before op - which slowed recovery.
Rest is key, and starting correct rehab and perceiving with it. Mine pains me a bit now (arthritis I guess setting in) - but I can do eights, press ups, and play better than before the op. I believe it's building up the muscles around the joint to take the strain - but get expert advice on that. I get compensating aches and strains still...bu the hey ho. I actually decided to come back using Chinese rubber to make me play full proper f/h strokes, as my brain was telling we I couldn't - that helped a lot - mentally as well as physically.

"FrenchFrog" I've had shoulder reconstructions on both my shoulders & are now back to where they were before my medical problems regaining my full usage.  It wasn't easy with physio, water therapy but to get rid of the scar tissue I had acupuncture. 8) Everything is good but I need to warm up well in the winter as my neck & shoulders don't like the cold during winter. :swear:

I don't know if this would help, but during my injury years with my right shoulder (nothing big, just nagging pain and no heavy workouts for a year.)
I use lightweight bands which i attached to my chin ups bar and do light stretching in high volumes, I'd do it on every angle as possible, you can search youtube on how to tackle all the sides on deltoids, front mid and rear delts, it kinda open ups my shoulders especially on high volumes and build up some neglected shoulder muscles that would help u reinforce your shoulder strength ( always seek the experts advice whether you're allowed to go on with this if you wanna give it a try even.)

I ordered a roll of it a month ago, and it arrived, but I was planning to use it as grip tape on my bat... (If you think that's going to look ugly, I bought the white..)

Probably not the response you would be looking for - but how about using the other arm ?
I have re-constructive shoulder on my left shoulder from a series of dis-locations in my late 20s and it took another 10 years before i really got the confidence to use it properly.
Developing a proper technique when you can use the modern day compact stroke with a lot of body movement should limit wear and tear.
If the advise is to do nothing until you get expert opinion sounds good.

^ yeap, more on the lines of hot pink, and neon yellow. One of my physiotherapist fren would alwasy pedantically scoff at ppl who bought it to apply themselves as he thinks that you gotta learn all that to apply it, I always brought upp that the ones that we see on tv applied as such that it had crazy patters and grooves is definitely world certified physio, and they are the ones who actually popularize those stuffs.

Does kinda look complicated. There's probably YouTube videos about how to do it.

Crazy right? Like sometimes I was just wondering whether these athletes really are sore or just outright fashion statement, especially in beach volleyball where they're practically half nekkid ( am guilty of watching em)

A good physiotherapy will do the job I guess. I tried physical therapy from a physical therapy clinic in NYC when I got injured. Had a good result. Try it out.
