Bad luck! :( Maybe do some left-handed training for a while (which apart from being fun/frustrating, would be great for increased technique awareness), footwork training, play the TT Edge app, have a TT edge library marathon, do some strength work on your left arm (which should strengthen your restricted right arm), etc?

That's a bummer. I broke my left hand ~15 years ago while learning to snowboard (pro tip: wear wrist guards). Ended up with surgery and metal plates and screws in there.

I am right handed, so it did not impact TT, but: I think it's going to be tough recovery. I was amazed how much wrist/finger mobility I lost after few weeks in the cast - it's as if joints decided to freeze. I don't think I fully recovered the full range of motion in some directions.

My main advice would be to follow direction of physical therapist and try to do all exercises they prescribe, and then some. Of course it depends on the severity of your injury. Hope you'll be able to recover to 100%.

Sounds a bad break but you'll be right. Muscle wastage can be an issue as mentioned but as pgpg said, do all the recommended exercises.

How did you do it?

Get well soon! Better take the time, perhaps more time even than prescribed.

thanks for the suggestions and support. atm i am still in considerable pain, and being told to stay at rest, just wriggle fingers every now and then.

it happened when i had a blowout of the front tyre of mt pushbike. any armoured gloves around. i can't afford this again.

Something similar happened to me several years ago. I ended up switching playing hand completely, I still can't really play with my left hand because it ends up hurting after a while. I think you can reach the same level as you had before quicker than you might think, but it never really feels right. It might be different for you, but if you really want to continue playing you could try it out!

Cast removed today!!!!

The sheer relief of not having the cast and the concomitant itchy arm is a little countered by the feeling of vulnerability, but that will pass. Doctor suggests that I do the exercises for 2 weeks before cycling or table tennis.

However, finally manged to actually pick up my new DHS 301 blade, which looks and feels wonderful.
