Very interesting -- I was wondering what was the big difference between my two Mizunos -- apparently, the older one needs it's insoles replaced.

Yuzuki: Could well be all insoles will wear.
I was actually on about a shock absorbing insole that I ordered through the physio, to put in my new shoes. They can be used in place of the existing insolse or on top of them. It depends on whether the shoes allow the normal insole to be removed. The shock absorption will be good for a year and then I will need new ones. They cost about £5 or £10 and you cut them to size.

Exactly -- now I'm thinking of replacing the insole of the old pair so I can use them again (they're still intact), but if the replacement insoles is at 25% of the cost of the new pair of shoes...

The physio I was seeing got me a set of insoles. I can't remember the name of the material. It's shock absorbing so takes some of the spike out of the impact. Have a word with your physio the insoles are good for about a year. I think the material starts with an N. (I'm a bit dyslexic and struggle with names). I also have some heel raises that I got from a JJB sports store. I wore these early on to reduce soreness and to allow me to bend my knee more over my foot (I asked for my repair to be as tight as possible) but as you want to stretch the tendon I didn't and wouldn't wear them all the time.
I've got the insoles in my squash shoes. (Gym work bores me so i've talked her into letting me boast against the wall in a squash court to break up sessions. I'm just not allowed to play against other people as its unexpected sudden movements and explosive push off movements that i still need to avoid). I sounds like i'm further along the road to recovery than you though Reb so I wouldn't be trying squash just yet)

Mate I haven't played squash in years. I have a brand new racquet in the cupboard I bought 10 years ago and never used as my squash partner moved away. I certainly won't be getting back into it now lol. Squash was always hard on my body as I was the type to dive for the ball and get full body horizontal in the air doing so. Landings were shocking lol. Too old for that now.

Was the material Silicon that you were trying to think of? I'm considering silicon heel raises to play TT in just to cushion any achilles pressure. I currently have ortho insoles in my new reeboks.

No it wasn't silicon that's got better applications! If I remember the name i'll post it.

It might be silicon that is in my sports store heel raises. Some doctors / physios prefer you not to use raises if possible as long term it can lead to adaptive shortening of the achilles. A specialist running shop I went too also advised this. For me i'll use it if my legs a little sore (and I absolutely have to do something) to take the pressure off but otherwise I don't bother. To be fair if your leg gets too sore its a sign you're probably overdoing it. They may allow you do a lttle more exercise a little earlier.

Yeah i'm the same. I consider myself a defensive player and I take as a personal insult if anything goes by me. That's one reason I don't want to play at a higher level yet, I can't trust myself not to go for a shot. I used to be fairly fit and quick.
I'm also 3 stone overweight and can't push off right side fully so I'm favouring my left leg which is twinging itself (I've been practicing more than I should against players who are too good as it's the only way to really test the grippy pips).

Neoprene: That would be my guess, but I can't remember for definite. My putter covers made of it so it's possible (though unlikely) that i'm confusing it with that. It's got a lot of uses, I think some wetsuits are made of it.

I had neoprene rubbers on a car once in the front suspension. They were hard and tough, but yes neoprene is used for all sorts of things including wetsuits.

Hmm, how about some of that Sof Sole gel replacement insoles? Just visited a shop, I found them at around 20% the cost of a new pair of Mizunos, so I would think that'll be OK compared to paying +80% for a new one.

Has anyone tried? Does it help with stability (or hinder it as it's...soft)

Dug out my heel raises. Note these are just heel parts and not a whole insole. They are orthotic shock absorbing technology and they are gel!

They were fine for me when i used them, very comfortable.

You're tempting me to buy a pair Anti. I reckon they'd be great for TT. Keep you more on your toes automatically, and take the shock out of sudden movements. Very tempting!!! 8) 8)

They do help keep you on your toes. I have just enough range of motion with my knee over my foot in the golf swing to attain my address position and maintain my spine angle through my swing without these, but faced with the ball above my feet I have problems which these would help with.

The neoprene I got through the physio. The orthotic gel heel raise I got from either decathlon or JJB and the gel heel raise I got from JJB. Can you be an insole EJ junky :) :?:

Oh, I just bought a pair of Sof Sole Athlete gel replacement insoles -- here's to trying them out next session!

(Sounded like a junkie, yep!)

Good I hope they work for you it's cheaper than buying new shoes. Let us know how you go on. Do they replace your insole or fit on top of it?

Yep, going to try them out later. They're replacement insoles, so the beat-up ones now go to my pile of junk inside the cabinet. :)
