I have been away from TT for 5 weeks due to a Tennis Elbow, and it doesn`t seem to get better.
But I cannot stay away any longer
Does anyone have some drills that might help ?

I am not going to waste all summer without the ability to play and keep form up to next season.

Do you mean that can help improve the tennis elbow, or that you could try and which wouldn't make the tennis elbow any worse?

I broke my elbow in January and it's needed wiring back together. I started to play left handed a month or so ago because I missed playing so much, a few weeks ago I started playing right handed again. First of all, all I did were simple back hand blocks - sounds boring but after 4 months away just doing that was great. I couldn't use my forehand at all. Since then it's been a case of building up. It'll be a few weeks more before I play in league matches because I find switching quickly from forehand to backhand as speed still sore. I've also spent a lot of time practicing the mental side of the game, reading loads of stuff on techniques for different shots and asking questions especially about footwork and what things to consider when selecting equipment. After 4 months off my old equipment was too quick for me so I've also invested in a slower set up to give me more control and then I'll build back up.

I posted back in January asking about how long it would take before I could play again and the best piece of advice I received was listen to what the surgeon and physio say. It was really frustrating at first but if you rush things you'll pay dearly for it in the future, and no matter how frustrating not playing now is, your health is priceless. Ask a doctor who understands the demands of table tennis and trust their judgment.

For more information on sports injuries and recommended rehabilitation and management of your condition I'd recommend visiting this site - the Sports Injury Clinic. It's got loads of useful background information around lot's of sports injuries. The link should take you to the tennis elbow information - I think it makes good background reading around your condition.

Hope this helps and good luck with your recovery.

Please excuse my ignorance to ask, but how does one get tennis elbow playing table tennis? Did you play tennis on the side? Is that why?

Tat I think if you use a blade too heavy and combined with a handle too small that you need to grip tighter than you should its possible to damage the sheaths around the nerves in the elbow by repetitive movement (which is essentially what tennis elbow is). Granted its probably more prone and common in tennis (got mine there). You can get it doing lots of things though, as it really is just a repetitive strain injury.

I got is from playing Table Tennis.
I play a very hard bh hit and uses it whenever the i can, i often play from 19.00 - 00-00 that must have put to much strain on my elbow.
You need to remember that my bh hit is maybe more powerful than my fh hit.
When hitting really hard you can easily hurd your elbow.
