Note their primary rationale: "We hope thereby to underline more the players' skill and less the importance of the material."

This is wrong on so many levels.

They act as if playing with long pips requires no skill. And remember the BoD is only supposed to be regulating elite international competition where low friction pips were not even remotely a problem.

On the other hand, to this day faster, spinnier inverted rubbers are constantly being developed and approved which allow less skilled players to easily loop. What happened to underlining the player's skill?

Yes I agree completely.... this was never a problem at the elite levels, and they should not be making rules for the national and lower levels, as this is up to the National associations.

About the definition for frictionless pips...

“The intention is to confuse an opponent when a player is making a stroke, which normally would give a spin to the ball. Instead the ball has little or no spin, making it hard for the opponent to make a good return”

I have no experience with these frictionless pips but... is that really a distinctive definition for frictionless long pimples? I would say that with 'backspin strokes', the opponent's spin is still continued, meaning that opponent's loops with heavy spin will send back huge back spin... Correct me if I'm wrong...

And another thing... what is so confusing when you 'know' the ball has little or no spin... Bit paradoxical :-)
