so whats the idea? the set stops after 7 minutes and whoever leads wins? or is the idea to reduce the amount of points to win the sets?

either way, wasnt the plastic ball intended to help with LONG ralleys..? :headbang:

I think it's the first, AA. They do it because channels could program a TT game better because the duration would be fixed. Now we have to find a channel that wants to broadcast a game. Besides, a game could still last for 28min, 35min, 42min or 49min. Loophole anyone?

They also are testing those multicoloured balls used not long ago in the Chinese Superleague (I think). Weren't those balls blinding the players when there was a lot of rotation on it?

Where do they get these goons? :n:

New tactic,,,,when you are ahead, slow the game down as much as possible.

Just leave the game alone. :punch:

Good point... that could potentially ruin the game for viewers...

They'll probably have to have some kind of countdown clock between points to keep the game moving like they have in basketball and football. And since everyone is so anal about recreational players using the exact same rules and equipment as the pros, this will eventually filter down to us in some negative fashion.

Not necessarily. Whoever's ahead will start defending, whoever's behind will start attacking desperately, might end up being quite a spectacle.

Tennis has this problem and doesn't over cater to it the way this proposal seems to. The worst tennis should do IMO, if it is a real concern, is to avoid the deuce game and let the game end at 11-10 which is what they do for certain doubles matches in tennis.

Deuce games in tennis, though, are what makes it worth watching. And there are LOTS of them. They did bring in tiebreakers to remove deuce matches (otherwise clay court matches would go on forever).

Ow yeah... More demonstration table tennis (one attacking, one lobbing). |-) That's nice for once, but it will become boring after a couple of times.
