In serious pro sports, the athletes should try all the time. I couldn't imagine this happening during a major football game or boxing match, for example. Would the officials allow this clowning in the final 16 at Wimbledon? I kind of doubt it.

If pro table tennis wants to be taken about as seriously as the Harlem Globetrotters, then this is a good highlight.

Yes, why isn't Chen grabbing a bucket of confetti in one hand from behind the barriers and then tossing it at the crowd ? Why don't both players emerge at the beginning of the match from a tiny Clown Car. That would be video worthy.

I hate to see this type of thing put forth, myself, but I fear that pro table tennis is taken about as seriously as the Harlem Globetrotters by a large number of people.
