PETITION

Dear ITTF’s Leaders, and National Federations’s Leaders,

We expect you to finally get involved and actively apply the Table Tennis rules concerning Services, Boosters, Speed Glue, and prohibited Pips; or that you work so that these rules are modified and can, at last, be applied!

We want matchs to be played in equitable terms, for everyone.

Hidden services have been prohibited for 12 years; glue and boosters for 7. We cannot stay in this vague and unfair situation, where some players comply with the rules and others do not - sometimes even boasting publicly about it.

It does tarnish the image of our Sport, and we can no longer accept that. What image are we giving? That of a game in which the players can decide to apply the established Rules or not?

Please act, now, for Table Tennis and Equality!

You were elected to manage and organize our Sport… You can do it even better than what you are now!

We are strongly counting on you, please don’t wait any longer.

Sportingly.

RULES ARE GOOD. and UMPIRES ARE BAD ( far too forgiving in doing their job). Yes.

Image

Petitions and suchlike clamant crying in loud voice will NOT work. Never.

A better respect of the game's rules is what you need now above all. Umpires must do their job in most strict manner. Yes.

It is umpire's prime duty to always mantain fair play in every table tennis match.
--Umpire is strongly required to talk to the offenging server informally, between rallies.
This is how the game gets a sport of honour, free of the serving dirty tricks.

You know, to be honest, there are a few of us who get upset over this, but for everyone else, life goes on as usual. Booster? Who cares who uses it, we get to watch our matches on TV and go to our tournaments. If everyone uses it, fine, if only some people use it, fine... and if WE want to use it, who's going to care? And as far bring our sport into disrepute? To the vast number of people out there who are not involved with the sport but might catch the odd game on television - they will not even have heard of any of this, let alone care.

Just wondering what an episode of John Oliver's "Last Week Tonight" on table tennis "cheating" might look like. I'd probably laugh my head off, like I do whenever I watch that show.

Have to agree that a petition to a corrupt organization telling them to stop being corrupt is unlikely to provide the intended results.

As you might recall, a few years ago there was a petition to stop the ITTF's corrupt plan to move to a larger plastic ball based on a false claim of a worldwide ban on celluloid. The poll was fairly well publicized and had some influential backers. However, the end result was just 802 signatures in 2+ years.

This petition will be no different. Table tennis players are on average a pretty apathetic, uninformed bunch. Besides all the good players are boosting so they won't back it.

As far as petitioning the national associations, they just rubber stamp whatever the ITTF says. Independently they won't stand up against the ITTF in 99.9% of cases.

Is there a problem for you with boosters, hidden services, speed glue, and prohibited rubbers ?
You write "Besides all the good players are boosting so they won't back it." => one of the purpose of the petition is this : a new rule => "booster for all"...

I admire your enthusiasm, and I believe most people here agree with you that we have problems. However simply running a petition is not going to solve all your problems.
You need:
1. to research all the facts, to make sure all your facts are correct,
2. Carefully address each single issue, explain what the problems is, and recommend solutions,
3. Target the issue towards people that have influence, and that are likely to listen.

In other words, you need a detailed plan of what you're trying to achieve and how you're going to do it. Simply running a petition is not a plan.

On this forum we have discussed all the issues that you describe is a lot of detail many times before, often coming up with viable solutions. However getting someone to listen, someone that can actually influence a decision is the hard part.

Our lack of enthusiam for your petition is not because we don't agree with you, but it's because most of us have lost faith in the system (i.e. the ITTF), that continues to make decisions that don't appear to be in the interest of the sport, and sometimes smells of corruption.

Haggisv,
Thanks.

That is exactly what i'm doing.
1- The "volunteer Way", especially there : https://www.facebook.com/pour.l.application.des.regles (in french), by the Petition, and forums. We have also made tee-shirts.
2- Official channels. I'm specially involved in the table tennis regional organization where I play table tennis (the France is geographically divided into 13 regions ; that's the same for tennis table organizations). The president of my regional organization is also Chairman of the National Sport Commission of our national table tennis federation (= FFTT = Table Tennis French Federation). So, I need to convince him gradually to act. It is on track for my region. By the way, he meets sometimes some responsibles of the others National Federations, and of ITTF... Maybe a lot of time will be necessary... but things can change.
We nevertheless need support and others who are involved all over the world ...
:)

Julien, Congratz on taking this initiative. I've signed the petition and liked your FB page.

However, I doubt it will make a difference knowing how the ITTF works. But by only talking about the issue we're definitely screwed.
