ITTF very proud that China did not win the Women's World Cup for the very first time. Kind of an empty claim considering no Chinese women actually played in the tourney.

The full list of invited players for the Seamaster 2016 ITTF Women’s World Cup: Liu Shiwen (CHN) - Asian Cup Winner Ding Ning (CHN) - World Champion Feng Tianwei (SIN) - Asian Cup 3rd place Mima Ito (JPN) - Asian Cup 6th place Yu Mengyu (SIN)- Asian Cup 8th place Miu Hirano (JPN) - Asian Cup 5th place Tie Yana (HKG) - Asian Cup 4th place Melek Hu (TUR) - Europe Cup 2nd place Jia Liu (AUT) - Europe Cup 3th place Haeun Yang (KOR) - Asian Cup 9th place Elizabeta Samara (ROU) - Europe Cup 4th place Huajun Jiang (HKG) - Asian Cup 7th place Sabine Winter (GER) - Europe Cup 6th place Yanfei Shen (ESP) - Europe Cup Winner Sofia Polcanova (AUT) - Europe Cup 5th place Lily Zhang (USA) - Wild Card Dina Meshref (EGY) - African Cup Winner Yue Wu (USA) - North American Cup Winner Zhenhua Dederko (AUS) - Oceania Cup Winner Lady Ruano (COL) - Latin American Cup Winner -------------------- Days before the event, Ding Ning withdraws from the event. http://new.ittf.com/2016/10/02/olympic- ... world-cup/ A couple of days later Liu Shiwen also announces her withdrawal. http://new.ittf.com/2016/10/04/liu-shiw ... e-absence/ It is a little strange that the ITTF would mention "China did not win the Womens World cup for the very first time". That isn't an accurate representation. **This did create an opportunity for Mui Hirano's star to shine. She has been getting a lot of attention in the Japanese news; having been in Mima Ito's shadow. |

Looking at Russia with it's superleague and their cooperations near the China-border it could be possible that they're going to surpass several European countries quite soon. But China will still be superior for the next decades, I can't see a change here. |
