well, just to update, but I finally performed at my school's festival with my solo the reinecke undine sonata, although I missed a few notes, I got a SUPERIOR (second highest possible, first is command performance), but my parents didn't have suitable video camera on them (curse you Russian River!!! |( ) I'll be performing that same song at the San Diego flute Guild Competition in a month, so that will be super exciting, and hopefully I'll perform better :)

well, performed at my first competition, and I got zilch.... plus the judges gave the the 2nd lowest grade :P

but I don't care, what I played was probably one of the best jobs I have ever done as a flutist, so I am really happy about it. Sorry, no video :headbang: still haven't gotten a new camera/noncrappy phone. I record it on my webcam for you guys :P

now I got to work on audition pieces and the 2nd mvmnt of Reinecke Undine Sonata op167

I gotta say that's quite skillful, fluteman!

As an audience which knows little about classical flute music I don't see many mistakes (almost none, didn't notice).
I do play music and I realize my mistakes too but the audience didn't seem to notice as much as I do.
Thinking that way I play with much confidence thus I could play better. I think you should too, man!

Enjoyed your performance. Keep fluting!

I am nowhere near a musician but I do like to blow the harp occasionally. But mostly my kids start shouting "Stop!" or they wants to play themselves. The harmonica is an excellent instrument to start with (my daughter, 7 years, is playing flute since a year back and now she wants to try the violin |( ...
Anyway, here is a clip of my son (and me) a few days after his first birthday (5 years ago). The best part is in the end :) :

Ha ha... No, even the most expensives harps are less than $50 I think. But you need one for each key.

Edit: sorry - "more" than $50 was it suposed to be, mostly around $30... But this is only concerning blues harmonicas... There are other "unorthodox" versions that are a lot more expensive.

Just found this thread.
I'm a professional musician in the UK, have been for thirty years, working in many spheres.
I got a Music degree and then worked in contemporary composition (Cage/Stockhausen etc) for a few years as a singer/pianist/oboist; became MD of a Theatre company which I did for several years, as a multi-instrumentalist/composer; then set up my own instrument-making business, making about 30 different instruments from bamboo, which kept me busy for 15 years. I've also taught music all along, to degree level, as well as private instrumental teaching.
On the side I've always been a jazz pianist/composer, and have run a few singing groups for the last fifteen years. I was director of a Music Festival specially for kids with learning difficulties, for some ten years. These days I teach the piano, sing in two groups, one a male quartet, the other a choir which I run and do arrangements for, and occasionally I write pieces of music-the last one was for a schools festival celebrating the life and achievements of Martin Luther King. And I play jazz gigs and lead a soul/ska party band.
I'm obsessed with music, all aspects of it- I've played in rock bands, folk groups, orchestras, you name it. I have to be involved with music in lots of ways, not just as a specialist 'cellist or whatever- otherwise I don't feel I justify the name 'musician'. Most of the people trained to the hilt on one instrument in a conservatory can't improvise their way out of a paper bag-how can you call someone like that a musician, a 'player'?

TT is my hobby, but music is my life!
