Saw this great movie last night - "Searching for Sugar Man". Basically, the (true) story is about 2 South African journalists who wanted to find out what happened to the singer Rodriguez. In South Africa, in the 1970's, he was bigger than Bob Dylan, The Stones, etc - yet virtually unknown in his homeland, the USA. Great Music, really good documentary. Won't say more, but worth seeing!

I used to listen to Rodriguez back in the 70s and had a copy of Cold Fact on vinyl. He was reasonably popular here (in an underground sort of way) but presumably not as big as in South Africa. I had been planning on seeing the doco tomorrow so thanks for the recommendation PRW.

He was anti-establishment, which in South Africa was sorely missing. Won't say too much, but left the cinema with some deep thoughts about the goodness and otherwise of people, and what's fair, what's not...

The Canadian Broadcasting Radio station managed to interview him last year when our radio set-up wasn't frozen. It was a good interview, I have not seen the movie but thanks for the reminder, I will pick it up for sure!

Saw it today PRW - extremely enjoyable. The first concert was very emotional and he handled it with such grace. His daughters were very poised and articulate. Thanks again for the recommendation.

I wonder if they will ever find out who got all the royalties?

yes, I had the hairs on my arms standing on end during the first concert - absolutely amazing, kept thinking how great for him...

I thought that they would focus on what happened to the money, but kind of glad that they didn't - he didn't seem too concerned, which made it all the more uplifting...
