I've just found out my credit card got "skimmed". I don't know from where and how.
I did some research and found how easily it could be done!

WHAAAT???

Sure, a touchless credit card solution simplifies access to payment. Carrying your banknotes on a paperclip outside your pocket would do the same.

Easy access for you = easy access for everyone else. Why would a "responsible financial institution" allow that?

I just checked. No RFID logo, nor telltale bulges, on my cards. Phew!

if you're bored have a look at RFID passport microchip skimming. Doable from something like 30 meters away with off-the-shelf components.

How do the banks justify creating this whole new "tap and go" service if it make customers accounts so vulnerable? Skimming has been a problem for years with ATM attachments and such, so why would they make it even easier for the crims?

I recently had a BIG scare with my PayPal account. I received three emails from PayPal saying that I had made transactions totally over $600, which I did not. I went straight to my bank and it was all sorted within a couple of days. Luckily my bank not only was quick to act but also said that my money with them is insured. PayPal eventually got back to me as well to say that the transactions were found to be fraudulent.

Regarding ATMs, I've noticed that my bank's ATM seems to change about every six months. I wonder if that's part of their method to prevent 'skimming'.

The main thing is never ever trust an email from your bank or PayPal saying that you need to follow a link. I get these once in awhile, but the business I work for gets them very regularly. Now, I'm just waiting for that 10,000,000 lump sum promised me by Dr J. Smith from Upper Mongolia!
