I *may* be traveling to Australia in the future, probably for 3 months (max stay for holidays visa).

Here's the question: someone has visited Australia with his bat?

I heard about prohibition on travelling with wood items on your luggage, and I don't want to bring my blades just to get them trashed inside a bin in the airport customs office...

I am not aware of any issues with properly finished wood products. What is your blade? Is it home made or not a "known" brand?

Some domestic airlines insist that a table tennis bat is an offensive weapon and do not allow it in cabin luggage. And there I am using mine defensively - see my user name :)

Raw wood can be a problem, but not processed wood like a TT blade. As Retriever mentioned already, just don't put it in your hand-luggage.

I have traveled with my blade entering Australia. You just need to declare in custom that you are carrying wood material, then they will ask you what you have...Once I explained it was my blade, they didn't even check.

By the way, which city are you planning to visit?

Ok, then I will carry one of my blades so I can visit someone if opportunity arises :D

If things go fine, I will be near Byron Bay (around 30 min away), at NSW if I'm not wrong, but I still didn't get any reply, so it's still not certain.

What a shame you don't have N\Melbourne on your Itinerary Nittaku. Would be great to meet after all these years. If you come to Aus, and there's any chance of a trip down south, let me know!

I hand carried my two table tennis blades(in my back pack luggage) via air port custom check into Australia two years ago. There was no problem. But the best way is to declare them at the Check In counter. The staff will place the blades in a sports equipment casing for their proper handling together with the check in luggage.

Just received an email from the workaway host, they don't have places now and closed the host offer, so it seems I need to search for another host :?:

I finally got my gap year at work, but it's becoming a real pain to get some experience related to my studies... Hope I can find something there!

I have flown places internationally and NEVER had a TT bat even examined, NOR those dangerous cellulite made TT match balls either. :)

Just tell them you have a blade that's 10-12 inches long. That'll clear things up.

Sorry to hear that :(

How do you search for a host?

I'm currently using workaway.info, kinda similar to wwoof but not just for organic farms, people ask for help with various projects and you get bed and meals, this one was for web/graphics design help.
