I've recently got back into Dire Straits, used to love this when I was younger, and now I remember why...

"Romeo and Juliet" still gives me goosepimples....

GooseBUMPS you mean?

Interestingly enough, this was one of the tunes they played on the last (not the current) Midnight Special. Someone else did it, though.

Brothers in Arms is one heck of an album (and yes, I know Romeo and Juliet was off Making Movies!) Mark Knopfler is a pretty great guitarist, too. The solo in Sultans of Swing still amazes me.

Wagner. (Apparently pronounced "Vahgner" .. You risk being labeled an idiot if you say "Wagner" the English way.. )

(I heard this on the radio two decades ago, it's just as funny today as it was back then.)

The Thistle and Shamrock

I used to listen to this show religiously every weekend, and I'd tape it (I have a huge box of VHS-HiFi tapes, each with six hours worth of audio - I'd set the VCR with inputs coming in from the radio to tape the show). Haven't listened to it in YEARS, and now I find I can listen to it on demand, streaming.

That particular show I've linked to above -- there's a whistle and guitar set that starts around 6:30 that's just amazing.

Three hours of weirdness. There's three or four tracks about peanut butter that had me laughing pretty hard.

PHC!! I listened to this religiously for several years, every Saturday evening, on the radio, in the lab, in the office, at home.. And then I started taping the show - first on cassette tapes, then on HiFi VHS (6 hours a tape). Then I came across this a week or so ago:

I just found that they've got a whole bunch of shows available online. Only a few from before Keillor married and went off to Iceland and returned a couple years later, except the show was then called American Radio Company of the Air and was based in New York. This one's from 1985, I think this was the first one I ever listened to (a repeat), broadcasting from Hawaii. It got me hooked pretty hard, that show.

You'll need Real Player.

Midnight Special again. A particularly good show this last weekend. Huh... Had no idea. There's actually a National Cat Day (Oct 29th). And it's the Indiana Bicentennial (somewhat nostalgic for me..).

ROFL...

"Did you know that cats gain weight the faster asleep they fall?
When cats are awake they weigh almost nothing at all
But when they fall asleep on your face or on your buns
A cat that's really snoozing can weigh several hundred tons."

Good stuff! I'd heard "Elements" in high school (like most science nerds probably did), but was unaware of his other work.

This is where I don't link to a song that Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake were joking about on The Tonight Show: Hayseed Dixie's "Keeping Your Poop [In A Jar]"…
