I've no idea why you posted this video, it proves the exact opposite of what you claim.

Unless everything that proves the opposite of what you claim is a "lie". Oh wait, I think that's exactly what he's about...

Once upon a time I thought this theory was pure bull....

Now....not so sure.

You can see the Chicago skyline across Michigan Bay from Canada.

No you cannot. First there is no body of water named Michigan Bay. Second I live in Michigan and visit the western shore of the state too look directly west across Lake Michigan directly toward Chicago and you cannot see the skyline even across Lake Michigan and it is only 30 miles. Don't believe every video you see on YouTube (ever heard of PhotoShop?)

Besides there is no way to see from Canada to Chicago without trying to see across some body of land, most of which would be Michigan and it has elevation changes of as much as 850 feet). You've been conned.

Here are a few questions for the all flat earthers - What does the true map of the world look like? Who (what country and city) lives closest to the edge? Now travel there and bring me back some pictures of over the edge of the world, or better yet fly over the edge and then down to show us the back side of the earth where the dragons or whatever live. Better yet why haven't the people who live at the edge proven the flat earth claim already they have had thousands of years to do so. If it is all water at the edge then why doesn't it all flow off the earth out of reach from us and we die of thirst?

But the big question no one ever even tries to answer is why did the earth form flat? What fundamental forces of nature caused it to end up plate like, when it is one of the least energy efficient forms for a body to take?

So you are 'sure' the engineers building the bridge and the railway line built curve in to both.

I am not aware of any railway line EVER being built with curvature built in to the steel runners the train is connected to.

How long is each steel section of line and how much curvature is built into it?

Each steel section is 39 feet. The curvature of the earth is 8 inches per mile or 0.0015 inches per foot. So the curvature needed in a 39 foot rail would be 0.058 inches. Course sand ranges in size from 0.020–0.039 inches. So unless the track bed was smoothed to rule out a couple of grain of course sand sticking up above the rest of the track bed, the curvature of earth would be a less important consideration in terms of flatness. Clearly the accuracy in laying train track is not sufficient to judge the presence of such a small deviation, and so no determination cannot be made from it.

The problem with flat earthers is they don't even bother trying to do what amounts to high school level arithmetic to check their potential bias.

All good questions. Certainly since the world is flat, then by definition that means there's an edge. And the answers to your question? Many/most believe that the earth is surrounded by a wall of ice. This ice wall prevents the water from falling off the edge of the planet, and keeps us alive. Also, dragons, being averse to the cold, do not cross the barrier from the upside down world.

No because gravity exerts its pull between the center of mass of the two objects so the water even when it is 24 feet lower is at a point on the curve where the line to the center of the sphere (and thus the pull of gravity) would be perpendicular to the surface of the water and thus it would be being pulled straight down and thus nothing to make it flow anywhere. Did you think the squared relationship just came out of now where - it is based on the geometry of a sphere and that also affects the way the force of gravity drops off. This form of consistency is required of any accepted theory or theories in science. It is just this form of consistency that is so obviously missing from the flat earth conspiracy, and is what keeps this from even being considered as scientific.

The famous pic of the Chicago skyline from across the Bay in Grand Mere State Park - a distance of 56 miles away.

Haven't you seen Game of Thrones? Dragons have no problems crossing ice barriers and frozen lands.

Well, to be fair this wall is astronomically larger than the wall in GoT. And it’s surrounded by endless amounts of ice. Also, the dragons would have to go around the edge of the disk to get to our side.

And in the GoT, they have undead dragons. And c’mon, THAT is totally unrealistic!

I'm really pleased mac brought up the "famous pic" as it gives me the chance to post a couple of pics I've taken which prove the world is round.

The first photo is a selfie I took which shows I was high enough off the ground to see what's really going on:

Image

Photo two gives you an idea of the terrain I was flying over. As you can see, the horizon is not level as the flat earthers want you to believe.

Image

Photo 3 shows that even at low altitude the curvature of the earth is quite visible. This is a selfie I took from the Sydney Harbour Bridge just last year:

Image

The last shot is quite conclusive. It's a photo of my sister I took some years ago. (Obviously it's from the time before colour was invented):

1) This wasn't from Grand Mere State Park (which is, by the way, NOT in Canada!! There are no "states" in Canada, therefore there can be no State Parks..). This was only from Tony's Boat Dock. 40 miles away.

2) You can very clearly see, at this distance, that only the very tops of the buildings can be seen. The Sears Tower is 1450 feet tall. At 40 miles and a camera elevation of 6 feet, the bottom 912.9 feet (without refraction) or 772.35 feet (with refraction) will be hidden by the horizon, while the top 650 feet is still visible, as can be seen here. This is exactly what you're supposed to see if the Earth is a sphere.

3) As the boat gets closer to Chicago, more and more of the lower parts of the building become visible.

4) Notice how curved the horizon is???

Again, I don't know why you posted this video, it proves that the Earth is a sphere. C'mon Mac, Nature is against you...

The pic of the Chicago skyline was taken from Grand Mere State Park - a distance of 56 miles away.

They even concede that the Chicago skyline from where the pic was taken should only be visible "from much, much higher in the sky,up in space". Their words not mine.

The horizon is of course always flat.

That said, with a fish eye lens you can always get it to artificially curve.

Ok, this thread was quite the discovery for me :o
I usually saw it in the active topics part but thought it was just something like a chat/flood thread(like everyday stuff). And today I opened it and learned a lot of new things  . I really never even thought that this theory is alive and relevant.
This thread became a very interesting thing. I will not oppose some facts or any things. It just seems to me that the Earth being a sphere somehow fits in all the nature's logic we see around ourselves. It's just such an ideal and nice form for any type of energy containment that it just seems very logical for the planets to be spherical. But this is just how I see it
Anyways, please continue the serious talk here and I'll know that this is a serious thread

1. He shows a map. And explains he can't get as far as the park so he does it from Bob's Boat Dock (that first photo). Maybe you should watch the video more carefully. Did you even watch it????? He even wrote the distance in that shot.

2. The horizon is curved. Very obvious, just hold a straightedge up to the screen. Do you even know what a fisheye lens IS???? What he's using is definitely NOT a fisheye lens. It wouldn't be very useful because they have very wide viewing angles and you can't zoom in (because you can't zoom fisheye lenses).

*Groan* Now whenever I visit YouTube that Skiba guy's videos keep popping up. I DON'T want to know how Nephelim (whoever he was) came back after the flood. Not interested at all. He seems to have an opinion on everything.

If you want us to have serious talk, then we may have to ban the OP from the thread.

Oh, Iskandar, I'm so sorry. You don't want to know about the Nephilim, but I'm going to tell you anyway! For a start, the word "nephilim" is plural, so it refers to a group of people rather than an individual. (So if "that Skiba guy" is referring to an individual then he's barking mad.) The word only appears twice in the entire bible and, regardless of what some "experts" might say, is basically best translated as giants. No explanation is ever given of where these dudes appeared from but, hey, that doesn't seem to stop some folk from developing huge, convoluted and meaningless theories, particularly if they can then be used to tie into other crackpot ideas such as flat earth or lizard people.

In my surprisingly broad experience of nutty theories and the lengths some people will go to pretend they actually make sense, I've found that someone who has already gone down the rabbit hole of the flat earth pretty rapidly starts subscribing to all the other nuttiness as well. There's nothing wrong with being open-minded, so long as it's not so open your brain falls out.
