Hi guys,
I've been playing ping pong for years. Recently I've heard about the comedy movie "Balls of fury"
Has anyone watched it? Is it good?
Any thoughts?

Pretty good light comedy film. Just get some popcorns and be mindless for an hour or so...

It's a parody of Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon. If you like low brow humor, sight gags, stupid jokes, and one liners, you'll probably enjoy it.

I've seen this movie several times over the years, not because it's so great just watching with different friends and my daughter who all found it enjoyable. It's slapstick type comedy, the type that's so silly it's funny. If you want a serious movie, its not for you. If you accept its going to be a bit far fetched, then you might enjoy it.

Sight gags done well (and thoughtfully) aren't low brow. My favorite examples would be the first two "Pirates of the Carribean" movies and that "Spinal Tap" movie. Somehow, though, I don't think I'll go hunting for this particular movie anytime soon.

I apologize if this counts as hijacking the thread, but another table tennis related piece of film (well, it's actually an anime so I guess it doesn't count as a film) is something called "Ping Pong The Animation" directed by Masaaki Yuasa. Rather than being a comedy like "Balls Of Fury" (which is ridiculously cringy and funny at the same time at first glance via Youtube clips), it's more serious and I found that the characters developed really well imho.

EDIT: There's an actual movie on the exact same thing too, which was released back in 2002, directed by Fumihiko Sori... Gee, I was literally a little over 1 month old when it came out.

Not actually about table tennis, but there is some table tennis in the movie. Watched it this last weekend. VERY short clip at the table tennis club in the trailer.

Personally not a fan of these films. Balls of fury's very strange and unrealistic, I totally agree with the reviews!

Good grief - that looks the tables in the Eigenmann Hall basement. Piece of wood on saw horses. You had to bring your own net, most of the time it was that crappy. Last time I saw it was in 2001. Wonder if they're still there - they were made to be grad-student proof.
