If you have no idea what these terms in title mean, this message is probably not for you.   If we do have some tech-savvy people here, I would appreciate your thoughts.

I've been recommended that ooak forum should run on https instead of http as it is currently. Appearantly it will improve Google rankings, and also run more secure.

Currently the forum can already run on https, but there is some hard-coded content on http, causing mixed content errors in the browser. I'm told that cloudflare can fix this by re-writing the http calls to https, see the article below:

https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us ... -Rewrites-

Does anyone here have any experience with this, to (1) recommend that it's worthwhile, and (2) that it should work?

For the rest of you that don't know about this stuff, it won't make ANY difference to your forum experience or browsing, everything will still work and look exactly the same, so don't worry. ;)

This is not to answer your question, but possibly to encourage you to move to https:

At work I use Firefox as a browser and get the message that ooak forum is insecure every single time I log in . :@

Not having https is pretty bad honestly, I don't think you need cloudflare for that though but if that can do the trick for you, and you want to use their services anyway, go for it.

The forum software is certainly quite secure, it's one of the most secure forum software. The browsers have recently changed to now give warnings if websites are not running https, to encourage people to change to https. The forum is no less secure than it's ever been, it's only the browsers that have changed.

well, letsencrypt is free, although I am sure that is not the problem. :)

But yes, in most cases,

It is a lot easier to just migrate the forum db altogether to a new forum and site engine rather than try to fix https frenzy manually.

btw,

with dynu ddns one can tunnel https to http, but so far I only have succeeded on :80 site. :(

Still fail to tunnel it to custom port. :'(

Just look around. Most of the tt-forums would go without https protocol.

"Don't mend unless broken", I believe.
