I am currently convalescing from pneumonia, being very careful to be OK to hit up the Team World Cup next weekend.

However, I have had a miserable time of it, and decided that next year I shall be in a hot land, to store up some warmth against the English winter.

As may be known, I grew up in Adelaide, and still have family there. But it's a long time since I've been.

My question is: when would be a good time to go, for 4-6 weeks perhaps. In terms of weather (not too hot) especially, but are there any TT events there that I could drop by?

I plan to visit friends in Queensland for a shorter time, and probably want to see Sydney as well.

Any thoughts welcome.

Usually Sept to April is pretty safe weather wise in Adelaide, although Nov to Feb can have some pretty hot spells at times.

There are events on all through the year, but Nov to Feb is usually pretty quiet.

I'm in Adelaide too, so I'd love to meet up for a hit if you come down. ;)

If you're coming to QLD, say hi - but best time of year for visiting is april-may or september-october. June-July isn't too bad but the weather is brilliant before and after :-)

Thanks for the advice. It's still very much in the early stages at the moment, but I have been thinking February -March. I remember as a kid being very upset that we didn't get the day off school when the temperature passed 100F, because we were all sure that was the law. i don't know if that is still a regular occurrence.

I'd be very happy to meet anyone who is around and have a bit of a hit. A long time to go yet. Still need to get the relatives in tune with putting me up, but I think that's no problem. I have 2 nieces who i haven't seen since the early 60s in Adelaide, and some other nephews up in Loxton on the Murray.

Don't forget Sydney - I am on the northern beaches myself but with the aid of the TTNSW Metropolitan venues web page can probably advise where you can play:

https://www.ttnsw.com.au/home/index.php/playing-venues/sydney-metropolitan-area

Don't we have a thread entitled "Have bat will travel" for those paladins who do and can?

Yes, I'd recommend meeting up with different forum members, it's fun. Unfortunately there is either very little take up or very little "public" take up.

Stop by for a week or two. I could take you to play every day at different clubs until you can’t play anymore then you could take off to Bali to rejuvenate. 8)

It should.

More precisely, make Bali (Denpasar) your entry & exit port, much easier for you. Then take a few days to come here (Surabaya). Less than an hour flight each way, less than 50 pounds round trip.

No cost to play table tennis around many clubs, all levels and kind of players, including illegal equipments. Ha!

Just be prepared to be playing in hot environment. Not many AC equipped clubs around. Some play in the mornings, most in the evenings, a few play the midnight runs (10pm to 1-3am).

This definitely going into the planning mix, but still a long way from fixing plans. Prime thing is to see the family.

Of course. You could ask some stuff with Tino, he has family Down Under.

I'd say Autumn, March to May would be the best. Not too hot or windy. Would be a few tournaments on then too and Winter comp would be in full swing.

April this year is Masters Games.

Tino has suggested that I go to south of France or Spain. But really, you can't guarantee the weather there, in mid-winter.

And to Cobalt, I am a little worried about the heat, but on the other hand, I definitely want to be away from the English winter, which sometimes seems to run from September to June. And sort of want to experience the real heat again.
