Spelling correction - it is initialism.

Short answer - Yes, both.

Long answer - it is an acronym if you pronounce ooak as a word. It is an initialism if you spell the letters out as O. O. A. K.

Me, I am in the O.O.A.K lounge at the moment, suffering from initialism. I used to be acronymically challenged.

Ha! I was tempted to go back and correct the original typo but I'll let it stand. :)

So basically it started out as an abbreviation and morphed into an initialism for those who spell it out and an acronym for those who attempt to pronounce it.

Given the Aussie predilection for reducing words down to one short word ending in "ie" perhaps One of a Kind Forum should be "Oakie"?

You got me there...I'm not quite sure of the difference. It stands for 'One Of A Kind", not sure if that answers your question?

Which is why I refer to the forum as "One of a Kind" when talking to people because that sums it up - nothing else like it on the internet.

I always referred to it as "OOook" :-P It's a reference from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels.

There is a creature, who once used to be a wizard, that used to work in the library in the Unseen University, but due to an accident of magical nature in the library, i.e. got hit on the head by a book of magic, got transformed into a Orangutan. So he became the Librarian, talks to everyone using "Oook" and is tempted by bananas

I also call the ooak shop the "oak shop".

This thread reminds me of the milk advertising campaign. This one copped a bit of backlash:

In my head i always call it "Oh Oh OK" lol
I think because it feels more natural to follow up "Oh Oh" with ok instead of ak.

Ive never actually said it out loud because It has never come up in one of my conversations.
