Get into the habit of learning quickly in a match what tactical match-ups you can do where you are better than your opponent and then find strategies to force these match-ups. Let's discuss this USATT Tip from a pushblocking perspective. What matchups do we want to force? Obviously attacking pushes aggressively is one thing. But what else? One that comes to mind for me is I make a spinny sidespin serve, they return the sidespin, I block it back still with sidespin (which they don't see or forget about) they push off the table or the ball bounces sideways forcing an error. This is a good topic and hopefully we can explore this in depth. |

Really heavy backspin is another...they need to be a good looper to loop it over, and if they do it's likely not so fast, so you can chop-block (if you're good!) or chop it. If they push it back, you can push aggressive with the LP, which can give you the upper hand at times. You need yo mix up the placement, or they learn to return it into the most awkward positions. |

Tactically, at my level, moving the opponent to his FH corner and then blocking his loops with my bh lp. This matchup, at least for me, makes the looper uncomfortable because the angle is wider and he has to loop shorter or else it will go wide off the table. The opposite would be the situ where attacker is in his bh corner and making FH attacks to my BH. |
