Since I've been focussing on trying to stay in close to the table, and trying to block with my OX LPs, I seems to have develop a bad habit that often gets me into trouble, and although I'm well aware of it, I have trouble training my tiny brain to adjust. What I do is once I block with the pimples (BH), I tend to want to continue blocking/attacking with them, so I tend to put my right foot ahead of my left foot, to cover most of the table with my BH. Of course this gets me into trouble, as my reaction to cover a wide loop to m FH becomes very poor. Does anyone else have this trouble, and found a way to force yourself to stay in a more neutral stance? |

I do it all the time, and get punished for it. I am not learning from it, it seems. Guess it's like they say about old dogs... I suspect that the only thing that would help me is to have someone costantly reminding me to mind my stance. That will not happen any time soon, I guess. |

Nice to hear I'm not the only one IN practice sessions, which I don't do nearly often enough, I do focus on doing ti right, but once I'm back into games I regularly fall back into the bad habit. Of course it's not a big deal against some players, that either don't notice or are unable to take advantage of it, but against some players it loses me points every game |

In China, alot of my training was for pushing and blocking. They both had something in common, moving or stepping in front of the ball, then stepping back to ready. Many stepped in, then a little hop to return. Key, move your feet after each shot. Hours of multiball will make a difference. |

Gerada is known to put drawing pins under kids heels to force them to play on their toes :p. Not sure what pain you could inflict on yourself to stop you putting your foot forward. Sounds like you are ready to convert and play inverted on the backhand though . |

Key, move your feet after each shot. ....and..if you are somehow limited with your skills. Stay more parallel... no foot in front of any foot or... excercise to put your right foot behind left foot. you can still Play decent backhand strokes in this position and have a better stand for a FH stroke. |

Hmm ... it's a typical habit of LP players who focus more on their BH than on their FH. There are some simple exercises you can use to practise staying with the right leg behind your left leg. 1) Robot training: You need a robot who can play at least two positions: BH - FH. Can be regular and after a while irregular. First use slow intervall which allows you to focus on your footwork. Always keep right leg behind left leg. 2) Robot training: Short balls to BH (a common problem is that a ball is short in BH and the player goes in with the right leg and then right leg stands in front). Practise: Go forward with right leg, play the short ball, go back with right leg ... and so on. Of course the same is possible with many balls practise. Any exercise can be played at many balls. 3) BH push against BH push. The other may play the ball to FH suddenly. Then you should attack the ball to FH. Change to FH must be irregular. Always keep right leg behind to be able to play FH. 4) BH from BH, FH from Middle, BH from BH, FH from FH. Simple exercise which focuses on the switch between forehand and backhand. With pimples maybe push is better than attack. Hope this helps you with your footwork |

I know just what to do Solution Bring a gross of balls and meet me somewhere in Melbourne. I will sort your problem out, no problem Its called "half step", with the aid of Tony and his multiballs |

haggisv wrote: Yes I'm sure you can sort me out! So you coming to visit me in Melbourne? hehe okay, back to the discussion. It doesn't matter where you play or your stance, but you need to get use to an additional movement - known as "half step". In this instance, the half step will be your right leg during your BH shots. BH shots: Right leg always goes out (so it is in front of your left) to do the backhand stroke and need to recover with this half step. FH shots: A side half step which allows you to have a better reach or can triggle you for a cross over step. To shake off bad footwork habbits: Multiball Basically this half step is just like dancing, you just need to get used to it (in and out, right and back etc) |
