I play close-to-the-table LP push blocking with some forehand SP attack. I'm starting to handle most people in the US ranking 1,000-1,500 range pretty well.

Why does every say it's a failed playing style for higher levels? What are the issues/problems I should expect?

Olivier Mader, Pushblocker, has a rating of 2197 now without much offense. Watch his technique and mix in some of your own style offense. You should be able to increase your skill significantly.

The issue with long pips is consistency just like other styles and rubbers used.

The limiting factor is skill, just like any other style. The reason people say it is a limited style is because many LP blockers just get the ball on the table and rely on the disruptive effect of the pips to cause errors or popups from the opponent. Above a certain level most inverted players have played vs LP many times and aren't fooled so easily, so it requires more from the LP player to win.

Mader plays a very offensive blocking style with LP. 1500ish LP players aren't doing anything remotely like what he is doing, thus the ~700 point rating gap.

There *are* some inherent weaknesses and drawbacks to using long pips. And I do think there is a bit of a discrepancy between the equipment capabilities of offensive rubbers versus defensive rubbers these days, BUT, those differences only really become an issue at the top levels. Long pips, defensive play can be a very effective style for club play--even to relatively high levels. Like others have said, it's really just a matter of time and consistency. Work on your technique. Develop strategies. You can go quite far with pips, so don't listen to the naysayers!
