Post subject:  Good rubbers for learning??
I was thinking of making a set up to try out and learn a more defensive chopping style.

does anyone have any recommendations for what equipment is good to learn and develop with? Should i start with LP, or something else?

A more than decent and affordable chopping setup would be yasaka new era black (check the era thread which one to get) , palio ck531a red and a donic defplay blade. Together less than $50.

If you really want to focus on a chopping game and don't want to spend to much many, I'd suggest Yinhe Neptune 0.7 mm. Pairs up very well with the Donic Defplay blade Elvis mentioned.

For the price, DHS Cloud and Fog 3 is a great rubber, but is not the easiest to control-it is one of the very few good all-a-round rubbers. Friendship 837 is the the classic go to learning rubber for LP's. But I dont like it for chopping.

If you have the $$$ I love Feint Long 3, Ruwen Filus and some other world class players play with this and it has very slow sponge and very grippy pips. This allows spin manipulation.

So why Ian??? The blade will give you good control, speed, and excellent spin without hamstringing attacking shots: the 729 will teach you how to produce your own (mechanical spin) which is what you want for chopping. The FL 3 with is soft sponge and grippy soft pips will give you excellent heavy chop and control over your table game!

What good is it if you have great rallys but cant return serves or a spinny slow loops, or keep pushes and blocks on the table, or you pop them up for easy kills???

or call Haggis-he will set you up! LOL

That's also been my experience. The Neptune + thin looping blades (the defplay is basically an oversized one) is very controllable.

However, defensive choppers have traditionally used Def blades made from even softer woods like willow.

I second Neptune 0.7, but also in 1.0 mm I found it's really easy to use and very effective.

DHS Cloud & Fog 3 is a very good chopping rubber with attacking as well.

sorry but who the F*** are y, and where y saw the ONLY LP magic word?

Tenergy 05 is good beacuse is very sensitive to spin, and if you learn with that you will adapt faster, and use google BTW F***

Perhaps the fact that this is posted under LP Chopping may be a subtle clue.
