Post subject:  LP attack is easier than LP defense

Split from sticky introductory topic

Although I am trying to develop into a chopper, I have to admit I still tend to attack with the LP every chance I get...partly because I still have the double inverted instinct and partly because my LP attacks are still more consistent than my LP chops/pushes, and pretty effective when they land.

In the Australian Vets, I was struggling as a chopper for most of the competition. Towards the end, I decided to think of my LP as SP, and play accordingly, and it worked quite well. Interestingly, I found the TSP Curl P1r 0.5mm (which is arguably the highest regarded chopping rubber) to be fairly easy to attack with. It also blocks well too. In addition, it is easy to twiddle and attack with it on the FH. My previous rubber (grass dtecs 1.2mm), because of its explosive speed, was easy to attack with on the BH, but when I twiddled and tried to attack with my FH I lost all control.

Hey PK, I must be reading this wrong...shouldnt the title of your post be the other way around? ;)
I could see that you were and still are, an instinctive attacker in your vids. So I can see that for certain kinds of balls, that you would hit them with a counter hit style stroke and you would make everyone of those opportunities. So yes for you attacking is the easier option. Does this work for low balls too????

I have found that when close to the table attacking is easier as you get further away then chopping is better with p1r and this applies in ox also, easily the best ox lp I have used for away from the table chops, with effective lifting and rolling near the table

The big difference would be that the p1-r has a lot more grip, so you can add a little topspin on attack. This is definitely harder with dtecs.
