Post subject:  Forehand backswing question.

I had a chat to one of Australia's best players about my forehand.
He said on the backswing the hand should be close to the waist and not just for hitting backspin.
One reason he gave was that it is easier to hit a ball close to the body if the start is close to the body.
He mentioned if you start the stroke further away from the body it is harder to bring the stroke close to the body if you are rushed for a body shot. He also mentioned increased racket speed.
Another tip he gave is that the elbow should lead the hand for the start of the stroke.
This helps prevent shoulder issues if the hand is before the elbow.

Looking at some top chinese players they do seem to follow this advice.
The bat is low close to the waist and for a more forward swing they raise the arm and bat the start of the stroke.

The clip on the chinese on TTedge LTT59 - Learning table tennis part 59 - Whip Forehand shows this.

I would be interested in others comments on this topic.

So why are you asking about it? Why not just do what he says?

I am trying it on my robot so far. I was wondering the technical reason why some of the chinese raise the hand at the end of the backswing for topspin against topspin and the above seems to explain it.

Angular Momentum and why rotating with the racket closer to the body is faster.
