Quite possibly. But at least you won't have the problem of exiting a push rally. :)

New thread: How to win while countering.

Make your serve difficult to be put away via placement, speed (or lack thereof) or length or surprise factor or ...

depends on the other player but the op was just giving you variation choices, so you won't know unless you try, good serving can help you trick them or give a poor or predicted return

If they are short they are easy to flip but you can expect it. If heavy or variable side spin it may be difficult for your opponent to open real strongly with consistency.

When you have problems against heavy backspin in pushes you have to force your opponent to push weaker.

How can you do that?

To play a push with good quality (much backspin, long placement, flat) a player needs to stand right to the ball, e.g. pushing the ball in front of the body with a horizontal angle of the racket for a good backhand push.
If you change the placement of your push the opponent needs to move to play a good quality push again. You can use the whole table (if you have a both side push player) to move him and force him to play weaker pushes because he doesn't stand right to the ball.
And these weaker pushes you can use for a loop.

This is just an advice of tactics because you wrote you cannot practise much. Of course many balls training is the best way to improve your topspin against backspin and then finish the push rally with a good and spinny topspin ^^

Yes thankyou, ive toned down my attack slightly on pushes whilst getting better and have been working on pavement of my pushes to the corners.

A quality push is great, it is one of the things that separates levels. Still, staying in a push rally isn't exactly great, so something has to give. Will be attack, or ONE more push then attack. I like Fab's advice. I would say you have to change something and be unpredictable, yet high enough quality, then anticipate the next ball and go on the attack. It could be killing the spin, upping the spin, making good depth, making good jam placement, making it short, half long, or upping the pace/direction suddenly. Something has to give.

I've been working on a little backhand flick to turn backspin into topspin as seen in a Jim clegg video from preston tt. Seems to be working and something else to have in the kit bag.
