Many defenders use them on occasion to force oppnent to attack. If used correctly you can be well prepared for a huge chop after serving.
Then some uses them to keep opponents on their toes, not letting them drift to far to BH corner. JO Waldner is a master of fast serves down the line. Then we have the version that got famous again by Kenta Matsudaira, the tomahawk. It can also be slow and short, but it can be very effective if made fast and with lots of spin.
Any more? Doesn't female TT-playeds use fast and long serves a lot more?

My favorites are cross corner topspin or top-sidespin with inverted or the same serve motion wise which is nospin with the pips. Using them in succession is fun.

Those work on many 2000 level players if used wisely, but nothing works against the best players.

I also sometimes give them a topspin to their forehand which is fast and translates to a "go ahead and hit it at my backhand" serve, and if they give me lots of spin, like they usually do, they get a massive chop back. I don't think I ever try that against anyone really good, though.
