Brett Clarke on serving:

http://www.pingskills.com/blog/2009/08/ ... ndy-hints/

Keeping the upper arm stable, and not using too much shoulder... I can really relate to this.

Inspecting my videos, when i serve… which 60% of the time is the pendulum, with side or chop, I’m using a lot of shoulder, but… sometimes I do a reverse pendulum. When I do this, it has way more spin.

I was just shadow-serving that serve, and noticed that the action is much more wrist and elbow, almost no shoulder so the bat is travelling faster, and generating more spin :)

I wouldn't worry too much about perfecting the reverse just yet, but it is nice to practice for the future and for developing touch. I would say focus as much as you can on making a very reliable and smooth service motion that you can be confident in. With it, you can vary your impact and make different spins.
