Details of the OOAK Awards 2010 can be read here

Calling for nominations for:
4. Greatest contributor to the sport of table tennis for 2010
- Greatest contributor to the sport of table tennis, judging by the promotion, growth or new ideas/changes, etc

Please post your nominations here.

How is this run?
We will have a number of categories for the awards. For each category we will start a new thread asking for nominations for one week. At the end of the week, we will start a poll where members vote for their top 3 choices. Polls are closed after a week, and the winner is announced.

What's the award for the winners?
I will (any help would be much appreciated!) create an "OOAK Hall of Fame" page, where winners and the runner-up will be listed. Every year the new winners will be added.

Nominations so far:
Swedish TT association
Adham Sharara
Greg Letts
Singapore female TT team
Spin City
Organiser of hardbat tournaments
Achim Rendler
SpinLord
Susan Sarandon's SPiN clubs

Personally I think this should include not just individual but also groups, clubs or associations.

Assuming you agree, I would like to nominate the Swedish TT association, for standing up to the ITTF and attempting to overthrow the frictionless ban (even though it failed).

I second the Swedes

Adham Sharara would get my vote for the 2010 OOAK Non-Contributor to TT Award for overseeing a full decade of discriminatory actions against defensive table tennis players, the introduction of distasteful and expensive draconian testing devices, unnecessary bans of ITTF-approved products that people spent their money on in good faith, and creating an overall environment where cheaters prosper.

I'm not surprised by that MNNB as you've been running a personal vendetta against Adham and ITTF for a very long time, but I appreciate the effort he/they put in and although I might not agree with every decision they make, I respect them and firmly belive that the decisions are made to make the sport more popular.

Popular? Did you see all the empty seats at the last ITTF event? Popular? Didn't enraged players at every forum Adham joined rip him a new one? Popular? Didn't you just say table tennis broadcasts were discontinued in Sweden? In the USA we get ZERO ITTF events on TV and virtually no televised table table tennis at all. Popular? Who ever heard of a professional sport where MacDonalds hamburger flippers earn more than half the athletes? Popular?????

I'm sure many don't agree with some of Adham's contributions, but he has spend a lot of time talking and explaining issues to people. I doubt we've ever had an ITTF president that so openly answered questions and got involved in discussions. I certainly appreciate all his posts and answers to questions, so he deserves to be nominated for this. The votes will tell how many people agree with this.

Anyone, let's not discuss Adham in this nomination thread... this is not the place... Start a new thread if you like ;)

Any further nominations?

How about Spin City?

And the organizers of the big hardbat tourney?

I know more people that know about both of these than know what the ITTF or USATT is.

The people behind SpinLord (don't remember who had some knowledge about them, was it Pushblocker?). I think you need to have a very good confidence and strong belive in yourself to start a new brand with only two lp's (or am I wrong here?). And hopefully it shows that small brands have a future in TT, even though they need to pay lots of money to ITTF to have their rubbers approved.

Susan Sarandon's SPiN clubs which are getting TT a lot of attention.

I agree, the Spin Clubs and the hardbat tourney are the ONLY thing I have heard non-table tennis people talk about here. On the news channels, I have not seen one thing about table tennis for a long time except for them.
