The forum seems to be targeted by a number of spammers at the moment. The spammer register manually, so they're able to bypass the registration questions. Once they're approved, the use software to post hundreds of spam posts in a short time, really flooding the forum with useless links to dodgy websites.
I've currently disabled new registrations to stop them...hopefully they'll give up eventually. They're such a waste of time for myself and our moderators/spam busters!!!

appreciate the work.

When it happens I just go to the last page of unread posts to see what is new (in the table tennis world). I can't imagine how spamming like this pays off.

When a site with good search engine rating (signifying that it is popular, trustworthy, up to date, or performs well on some other scale) has links to your site, it will improve your site's rating. They want to be on the first page of google search results. First page entries get a LOT more visitors than following pages.

This is the shady side of "Search Engine Optimizing" or SEO.
