OOAK Table Tennis Forum

I've added a new forum feature is a smarter and cooler way of displaying images. When you attach an image, it will now automatically display it in a minimum size of 400 x 300, but if you click on it you'll zoom into the picture without leaving the forum page. If you picture is large, you can zoom in further, or else another click will just return you to the same forum page.

The beauty of this feature is that you can now upload any size picture, even hi-res pictures, and it will not show a huge image within the post but only a smaller thumbprint. People can zoom in by simply clicking on the image to see more details.

Below is a sample of what it looks like for an attachment.

NOTE: This feature will work for all new pictures that are added, or existing pictures that are embedded via a URL. It will not work for existing attachment, unless the post is edit and the pictures are uploaded again.

Let me know if it works for you, and if not please post here, and I'll try to resolve it.

Works great. I assume it will speed up load time on those threads with lots of pictures? Or is the full-size image still being loaded and just displayed smaller in the HTML?

Good question... it feels like it's loading faster, but I'm not sure. It's a very efficient Java script that does all the work.

If the Javascript/HTML is well-written it will always put the height and width values in the image tag. If it does that the page renders the SPACE for the image but doesn't download the actual image itself until the page finishes loading. Without the height and width the images are downloaded "inline" as the page loads so that often makes a page load seem longer.

If these are true thumbnails, you would likely have an extra folder for the smaller images unless there is an app of some kind that does the image resizing on the fly. Many host servers have such apps installed by default so that could be the case here.

There is a lot of tweaking that can be done, as well as settings to play with, but I'm personally not game to mess with it.
