Some time ago I ran a form of a game here on the forum which was based upon poll voting for one of two players as to who "performed" best based upon talking up there game. It was fun for a while but got somewhat boring. I am going to reintroduce that concept in a different form if there is enough interested players.

The new competition will run on the basis of a word game played between two opponents, where each opponent will come up with a word for each other to guess and they will PM me with their words prior to the match starting. The opponents may then guess letters from the English alphabet that are in the other's word. A correct guess will score a point, an incorrect guess will score a point to the opponent. The first to either score 11 points or correctly guess the word wins. And as a bonus, if the word is related to TT, the player will score a bonus point. However, the bonus will be unknown until the end of the game, so a player could reach 10 points and win through their bonus (which they would know about, but not the opponent).

So here are the rules:

- Each player will choose a word between 4 and 12 letters and PM it to me (or if I am playing, another mod will hopefully adjudicate  )
- A new thread will be created by me for each match some time after both words are received in PM
- I (or other mod) will decide whether to award bonus point if word is correctly TT related and will advise the player
- Words must be contained within the online Merriam-Webster English Dictionary
- Each player will post their "shot" in turn, but the "server" will be determined whoever gets the first post in when the game thread is opened
- A player may guess as many letters within a post as they like, but each letter will be addressed in order written and points awarded accordingly. However, it is strongly advised to guess one letter at a time as a player may lose the game by posting too many incorrect guesses at once.
- A correct guess of a letter used multiple times in a word will result in the same number of points as times the letter appears in the word
- You may not use a name or any other word that doesn't appear in the dictionary, penalty: point to the opposition and new word to be chosen
- You may not use a word already used in a completed game, if there are 2 concurrent games and you have co-incidentally chosen the same word as another player, this will be allowed. Words used in the game already appear in this post at the bottom.
- Posts will be taken in the order they are posted, so in the event of a draw, the first post to create a result will stand
- Other members may (and are encouraged for the fun of it) make posts to distract the players including pictures-style posts, but any post which attempts to give clues to the word will be deleted
- Any suspicion of cheating may result in disqualification.

Given I basically adopted this game based upon the traditional game of Hangman, I think the rules outlined here should cover the eventualities of the gameplay. However, I do reserve the right to have final judgment of each match and alter the rules in future based upon unforseen circumstances at this point.

So to give an example for gameplay, it may go like this:
Player A chooses the word - WOOD and receives a bonus point for having relation to TT
Player B chooses the word - METAL, which is not closely enough related (CARBON would be for example) to earn a bonus

The match thread will show:
Player A Word - ????
Player B Word - ?????

Player A guesses F and player B scores a point
Player B guesses O and scores 2 more points

Thread will now show:
Player A word - ?OO?
Player B Word - ?????

Player A score - 0 (player A's bonus doesn't show until he reaches 10, which automatically gives him 11 surprising player B)
Player B score - 3

and so on....

I envision if this is enjoyed by enough forum members we could move this from being a match by match situation to actually playing more of an organised "tournament" if the interest exists. I think this can lead to a lot of fun for us all here, and that is the approach I hope I can inspire in all who take part.

So, who is up to play Word TT? If you are PLEASE POST IN THIS THREAD THAT YOU'D LIKE TO PARTICIPATE.

Feel free to ask any questions as to how things may operate. The first responders will be matched up and a game will begin within a day or so, which will hopefully then let others see how the game progresses and encourage them to register interest to join in the fun.

I don't think you will find any place names in the dictionary...so no Names are a no-no full stop. Actually I am adding a rule in now that says you will be penalised a point (point to your opponent) for selecting a Name or any word not in the online Merriam-Webster dictionary. And additionally once a word is used in the match, if an entrant goes to use it again they will be penalised a point and asked to choose a new word. However, I will be keeping a log of the words used for all to see (in the first post of this thread), so more fool you if try to re-use a word. :P ;)

Now I am going to give this a trial run. Shortly you will see a new thread labeled OOAK Word Game - Keme vs Red-Lion as these 2 guys have sent me words already, I will use them as guinea pigs.

For future note, please don't PM me words until I have drawn an opponent against another here in this thread, thanks.

Let the fun begin. Don't forget to smacktalk and post distracting (but appropriate) pics in the game thread!
