As some of you may have read already, our friend and long-time members cyber1call (Steve Willis) has unfortunately passed away. ;( ;( ;(

Steve has been a member here for many years and has made many friends. He was always willing to share his great knowledge of table tennis with numerous people here with great style and humour, for which we will always be grateful.

Our forum extends our deepest sympathies to Steve's family and loved ones. He was a true friend and we will miss him!!!

Steve's friend, forum member Pipbull has kindly shared the message from his club with us here:
PipBull wrote:
It is with deep sadness that I pass on the news that Steve Willis died this evening (Tuesday, October 1) around 11:25 pm. He had been suffering from kidney failure for the last few years and played often in great discomfort. This last year, complications related to his kidney problems made things very difficult - he barely survived an adverse reaction early this year. Steve began having circulatory complications a few months ago with blood clots that threatened the removal of his fingers and feet. Two days ago it was discovered that another clot had blocked blood flow to his intestines, with the resultant necrosis of much of that organ. His condition was inoperable and unsurvivable. Steve's daughter Barbara recalls that just a week ago he was ordering a custom wheelchair so he could continue competing in this sport he loved.
Steve was a gracious and fierce opponent, exploring new techniques and equipment in the quest to improve his game. Every time I would figure him out, he would develop a new wrinkle - short pips, long pips, anti-spin. He set up the public website and a Facebook page for our club and was extremely knowledgeable about the technical aspects of the game. I will miss his presence across the table.

To honour Steve as our friend and long term forum contributor, he will be added to our Memorial page.

To show your thanks for Steve's friendship and great contribution here, please post your messages here (even a single one-lines to show your support), please either post them here, or PM them to me if you would like to add something personal or your real name. I will compile all the message into a file, and we will pass them onto his family.

Rest in peace Steve, we will miss you, but we are grateful having known you!!!

Although we never met, cyber1call and I were kindred spirits, both in our 50s trying to improve and learn more about our sport. Like many here, cyber1call was eternally searching for the optimal equipment to maximize his game. It was always interesting to hear his experiences and opinions on various rubbers, blades, etc. He was a reader of my blog, and he thought enough of it to put a feed of it on the Charlottesville TTC website, for which I was grateful. He was one of the good guys on this forum and I'm a better person for having known him.

Some people want things for free but are willing to contribute nothing. Others give things for free and are willing to share everything.

Thank you for giving your support to this forum cyber1call, your presence is missed.

Steve had a great sense of humor, and I always knew I was in for a witty observation whenever I saw his Col. Potter avatar on the page.
