As you may have noticed, on the home page of our forum I've added some scrolling banners pointing to some of the major events of our forum. If you click on any of the banner, it will take you directly to the relevant section. It stops scrolling if you leave the mouse pointer in the banner section to allow you to read the whole thing.

I think this is important, as major issues can so easily be missed by our members if they don't check the forum for a couple of days. Note that these banners ONLY appear on the home page, so it should not be much of an overhead as you'd be looking at other pages most of the time.

Please let me know if you like it? Any problems or further suggestions?

It could be a good way of reminding people that important, but overlooked topics exist.

For example, there weren't nearly as many questions as I thought there'd be in the Soulspin interview thread, which was surprising.

I like it, and the back and forward buttons work to scroll quickly through the different banners, but what does the "play" button do or does that only work if there is annimation or video in the banner, or am I doing something wrong when I click on it.

The only possible downsides I can see are:

1. It takes up screen real estate and if you're surfing the web on a device with a smalll screen it can be frustrating having to scroll down a lot to actually find the forum index contents and
2. The more "flash" and motion graphics a web page has the longer it takes for my phone to load the actual page and the more data I think it uses up. I'll visit tabletennisdaily when I'm on my PC but it just takes for ever to load the home page on my (admittedly old) mobile phone, so when I'm using my phone I like to visit "clean and simple" websites.

Thanks Debater!

The play button will only do something if you press the 'stop' button first...and that will start it again. I'm not sure if that bat is really necessary anyway, as I don't plan to have large numbers of banners to scroll through.

1. Yes I agree... and I can probably reduce this somewhat (by removing that bat I mentioned to start with). I would like to work on removing some of the unnecessary space there anyway. If you use apps like Tapatalk you won't see it at all... but that's really only for young people. :o

2. I agree completely, and I've always made great effort to minimise load time for this forum, so that it loads lightning fast, as people have expressed in polls that this is most important. The banners are only about 15kb in size, so it should not be that significant.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!
