Ovtcharov About The Two-Coloured Ball: "More Than Half Of The Balls Were Broken After Practice"

Dimitrij Ovtcharov's Jiangsu was the last team to book a place in the Super Chinese League's playoffs. Now Ovtcharov and Co. are preparing to face Ningbo led by Ma Long, but they are also preparing to play with the two-coloured plastic ball. The German player said that feeling is ok, but this ball brokes more easily than the celloluid one.
Dimitrij Ovtchorov is preparing for the Chinese Super League's playoffs. His team Jiangsu overcame Guangdong in the last round and will face Ningbo of Ma Long in playoffs.
Some days ago Ovtcharov shared his first contact with the two-coloured plastic ball with his fans on facebook. Today Ovtcharov told us about his first training with the ball.
The European champion said that he had a good ball feeling, but the quality of the ball isn't good yet, because most of the balls used in training broke. He also promised to post a video soon. He kept his promise and uploaded the video hours later.

Interesting. So the two colored balls are half white, half orange - and should easily be manufactured using existing equipment and materials if you start out with a seamed ball.

yeah, you are right. the ball is half orange, half white. it's manufactured by DHS, who has rolled out a white plastic ball some time ago. it seems their one-colored plastic balls are also receiving negative responses from the customers and players for its bad quality.

Another Chinese top player Zhang Jike also practiced with the two-toned balls, ten balls broke in merely 15 minutes. the news sparked a heat of suspicion over the quality of the DHS new ball.

Perfect, I hope they start selling these, as it can be a very handy coaching / learning aid!

Don't make a sweeping conclusion about Chinese factories. :) As far as I know, xushaofa seamless balls are pretty good quality.

I I believe they are, as are other seamless balls, but unfortunately they are so different from celluloid that they are unlikely to be accepted as mainstream balls.

You've tried it out? I played with xushaofa seamless balls a couple of times. I'm not a pro, so I didn't feel it is strongly different from the celluloid ball. Honestly, I love its higher bounce. When I played with a DHS seamed ball, I felt uncomfortable with its "dull" bounce. I think as time goes on, people will happily accept the change that the seamless ball brings.

even on the youtube hd videos, the fact that the ball is two coloured was barely noticeable at the chnese super league semi-finals! |(

Does anybody know if these were plastic or celluloid?

Slow motion.

What I'd like to know, though, is - how would you make a two-colored seamless ball? Seamed balls, no problem.

The reason I wondered is because nobody seems to have an orange seamed ball yet, so that is why I wondered if the two-toned ball was celluloid. Obviously the breakage suggested plastic.

Looks like all 10 broke on the glue line. That problem can probably be solved.

The way seamless balls are made, it is not possible to make a two colored ball.
