OOAK Table Tennis Forum

Last Monday night the matches played on our table alone broke 7 plastic balls. 4 were broken within one match. Another table broke 6. I don't know how many more were broken within the night but come Thursday we were back playing with celluloid Nittaku 3 stars. Reason: club can't get enough plastic balls to sustain competition with them! And I'm not sure we can afford the breakages either. We had Chinese Nittaku plastics for last season and one week into the new season we also had Joola's. Now only our A1 on Mondays will use them as they're the kids who play junior touney's with plastics. We Vets may also request plastics if we wish, everyone else gets celluloid until Japanese Nittaku's become plentiful in supply.

Plastic experiment at my club: FAIL!

Play with Xushaofa balls and you will not have this issue anymore.

Back in July I bought 9 boxes (of six ball each) for testing - it was enough to feed the table tennis robot when I wanted to use it to test other equipment.

Then after filming the plastic ball comparison video series it became obvious the Joola plastic balls I had weren't the finished product so there was no point using them to test other equipment. At the time I was concerned what I'd actually do with 54 plastic balls which weren't fit for the purpose I'd bought them for. I needn't have worried. The rate I'm breaking them, I'll soon have none left - at which point I'll not buy anymore plastic balls until I know for sure they've been made after 1st January 2016.

Not only are we back to the celluloid ball, but I think I handled the "change back" better than my opponents this week (not bad since I won heaps of matches last season on the change to plastic lol).
